AMERICAN BUDDHA NEWSLETTER
   JULY 2009

A Personal Message from Stuart Mooney

me

Many of us spend our entire adult lives seeking to achieve Spiritual Enlightenment. We travel around the globe and spend large sums of money following great spiritual masters, with great teachings, in hopes of becoming "innocent like a child" again.

Please listen carefully.

"There is only one thing that is real. There is only one thing that will always be tangible. What you are experiencing right now, in this moment, is the only truly spiritual thing you will ever experience in your life.

Live your life!

Live what is happening, as it is happening to you right now. That is the Goal of Goals. That is the essence of Spirituality.

The Present Moment is always available to you..... for free.....any time....anywhere.
It is God's greatest blessing and it is the final solution to ALL of your problems."

Welcome to the American Buddha Newsletter for July 2009. This Month's newsletter is devoted to an analysis of the nature of the mind. The American Buddha Programs were created as a vehicle to dispense information regarding the true nature of the Awakened experience and its practical benefits in the modern world. The American Buddha Programs were created as a resource for those in need of counseling or healing on all levels; physical, emotional, and spiritual. Be sure to check out all of our programs at  our websites at:

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What is it in us that causes us to be so discontent with what is?

Mind is the source of our discontent. Mind is the cause because mind is constructed with only one purpose. Mind is a mechanism for movement. Its purpose is to move us from where we are now..........to somewhere other than where we are now. Mind cannot, by design, hang around and just soak up the vibes. Mind must be continuously active. Mind tells us that it is there to help us solve our problems. But perhaps the mind has a vested interest. You see, if mind is not engaged in, planning, analysis, discrimination or action......mind simply does not exist. Mind is out of a job. Mind dies. So mind must constantly be identifying problems.  Then mind can be busy helping us solve the problems that it identified. But not before it has identified new problems..........so it can remain alive. The mind's true interest is to perpetuate problems because the mind's very survival depends on it. I am not saying that the mind is, by nature, bad. The problem occurs when we believe that the continuous mental narrative going on all the time in our heads is actually who we are. The problem occurs when we believe that the noise in our heads is actually pro-active towards creating personal happiness for us. The truth is that we are not the mind.....we just observe it. Mind is a very old construct. Mind is very useful. But it is only useful when we are able to first disengage ourselves from identification with the mental chatter. If we can culture our nervous systems to witness the chatter, then the chatter can no longer control our choices. The Witness in us has the ability to accept or reject any thought. The Witness in us cannot be overshadowed by any thought. We can then ride the mind. The mind is no longer able to ride us.

As I mentioned before, mind is very ancient and it has its own agenda. You see, mind is not our personal mind. Please understand that there is a single archetypal human mind which is orchestrating everyone's thoughts. All thoughts from this one mind are then in perfect synchrony, perfect harmony, with all of the other thoughts, of all the other humans....everywhere! This is a big thought!

Lastly, mind cannot feel. Mind, unfortunately, can only comment on what the senses are feeling. This is because the mind exists only as symbols. Language is the mind. Feeling is not the mind. Feeling is the raw data of the senses. Feeling can only exist in the Present Moment. Mind cannot be immediate. It needs TIME to process data, i.e., the raw, sensory, in the moment, information into symbolic mental language. Mind cannot directly experience. Mind simply comments on sensory experience. So, what you have just read is, at best, only an emotionless, linguistic representation of what I was actually feeling at the time that I wrote this.

What can I do about this?

You should learn to culture your nervous systems to directly experience the Divine.....in this present moment....because that is the only goal of this process known as living. You can accomplish this by systematically enlivening your sensory apparatus to FEEL "what is" exactly as it is. As your "in the moment" sensory experience increases, your mental activity will naturally take a back seat. This requires two components: Grace and Attention. They act synergistically. Therefore, it is not so important what you "think" about what you are experiencing. That is just the mind's symbolic interpretation of your experience. It is based on what has happened to you in the past. It is only important that you are FEELING the "full value" of your moment to moment experience....because the "full value" of your moment to moment experience can only blissful....can only be Divine.

Technique: Feeling the Moment

Have you ever just stopped? Just stop for a moment. Just be. Thoughts will come and go. Let them. Become aware of the ever-present Now. It flows. You may notice a flowing pleasant sensation. You should be in the moment at least 10 minutes a day. Bring yourself, easily, into the moment right now. Miracles happen here. Miracles are just the children of the present moment.
