The Party's Over at Pleasure Island
Walt Disney World is shutting down the six nightclubs at Pleasure Island to make its party district at Downtown Disney more family friendly.
BET SoundStage Club, Mannequins Dance Palace, 8Trax and three other clubs that have for years catered largely to young, single adults - rather than to Disney's bread-and-butter family market - will close after Sept. 27.
During the next couple of years, Disney will reopen the Pleasure Island venues with a broader mix of restaurants and shops.

News From The Getaway Girl™
Greetings!

Wow...or should I say BAM!  We had a fantastic time celebrating National Friendship Day with a girls getaway to Orlando.  New and old friends met at the wonderful Gaylord Palms Resort on Friday and began a fun-filled weekend that we will never forget.
Last month, I enjoyed some "girl time" in Key West and had fun hunting for lobster.  Stay tuned for big news next month on this great island city.
We want to hear from you!  If you have ideas, questions or suggestions, email them to info@GirlsGetawayGuide.net

Great Times Had During National Friendship Day Celebration

The National Friendship Day celebration started Friday night with a great "Wine Down" Reception. Once everyone checked into their rooms at the Gaylord Palms Resort, we met at the Gaylord's Auggie's Piano Bar for some wine. Afterwards, the girls headed in different directions. Some went to the Canyon Ranch Spa for spa treatments, some went to dinner on their own and a small group of us went to SORA, the Gaylord's new sushi restaurant.  The talk at the table focused on the fact that Sharla had never tried sushi. Although reluctant, she tried it all. Including jellyfish and eel.  I think we have a new fan of sushi.

Saturday was action packed with shopping, shopping and more shopping. We started at The Mall at Millenia at a private event, that included mimosas and private fittings, at Jimmy Choo. Shoes, shoes and more shoes (and a few handbags too) were all we could talk about. Wendy had trouble deciding which black purse to buy and I had trouble deciding on the perfect "choo."

Acorn

Many thanks to Taka, Sara, Cliff and the entire Jimmy Choo staff for their hospitality.  Also, thank you to Sally March and The Mall at Millenia for the great shopping gift bag and perks, including complimentary valet parking, appetizers, cocktails and store savings.
After our time at the mall, we headed to Orlando Premium Outlets, where Leigh Jones hosted a private party for us complete with champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Acorn

To our delight, Barney's New York Outlet held a girls getaway drawing for a $100 Barney's New York Outlet gift card.  We had a very nice time and cannot thank the outlet staff enough for this fantastic event, a cute shopping tote, and all the great shopping perks, such as store savings and product samples.

"All of the events made us feel free VIP all the way," said Leigh Scott of Plant City, FL.  "It was funny to see people look at us and wonder if we were celebrities."
Before we knew it, we had to head back to the hotel to get ready for our night at Emeril's. BAM! We were all so excited about our cooking demonstration and dinner at Emeril's. As we waited for the limo (courtesy of Cliff Wright at Royal Coach and Limousine), we talked about what we purchased that day and reviewed our spa indulgences.

Acorn

We arrived at Emeril's and were greeted by our very own customized menus and Chef Jay, who cooked some amazing things to nibble on (we loved it all, especially the Sweet Corn-Roasted Pepper Salad) and he provided some great cooking tips (even I could do them).

Acorn

Many thanks to Chef Jay, John and George, as well as Emeril's Manager Gabriel Orozco for their spectacular food and service. They even provided us with recipes to take home so we can enjoy Emeril's at home.  We had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed our behind-the-scenes tour of the kitchen!

The night was not over with dinner. We checked out the concert at CityWalk, where the band Orange Avenue was playing.

Acorn

We listened to them for a while and sang along, then headed to Pat O'Brien's for some dueling pianos where we sang along with tunes such as "Like A Virgin" and "I Will Survive." We also got the piano player (and the entire place) to sing "Happy Birthday" to Sally. What a night!
Acorn
Although we had no idea why we were still hungry when we woke up Sunday morning, everyone was anxious to get inside at the House of Blues for the Gospel Brunch, complete with live gospel music and amazing southern cooking.  We all loved the collard greens and macaroni-and-cheese, in addition to the wonderful eggs, biscuits and gravy and pork ribs.
Acorn

Yum! To top it off, the gospel performance had us all clapping and dancing along.
We departed from the House of Blues tired but rejuvenated by the fact that we took time away for ourselves, caught up with old friends and made new friends.   "This was one of the best girl's getaway weekends I have ever been on! The Getaway Girl™ had everything arranged perfectly.  From shopping to eating I felt VIP all weekend," said Cathy Hayes of Lakeland, FL. "What a great way to take the stress out of planning a fun weekend with your friends."
It was a fabulous weekend and a great way to celebrate National Friendship Day.  We are already making plans for our next girls getaway.

"What a great weekend! It was such a pleasure having everything taken care for the time we check into the hotel to the day we departed, Casey had it all taken care of," Leigh Scott (pictured above playing air piano) said.  "It was so nice just to have someone else making all the rearrangements and stay in such a wonderful resort.  It was a wonderful way to recharge the soul with some girl time and especially with new friends (and of course old ones too!)"

A special thank you to Michelle Smith at the Gaylord Palms Resort for all of her help in making this weekend absolutely unforgettable.  The Gaylord was the perfect host hotel and is the ideal location for any girls getaway.

Girls Getaway to Key West

Once again, I had a fabulous girls getaway to Key West. Carly, Jeri, Ann and I had a great day in this colorful island town. We hung out at Blue Heaven, Bagatelle, the Key West Art Bar, Cowboy Bill's Reloaded, Gallery on Greene and Peppers of Key West. The fun and cocktails lasted all day and only ended because we had to wake up early the next morning to catch lobsters.
Acorn
We had another great mini season hunting lobsters in the Florida Keys. These spiny lobsters are also known as "bugs" and are aggressively hunted by the general public the last Wednesday and Thursday each July. Florida lobsters don't have claws like other lobster, but they taste just as good. Regulations allow for six "bugs" per person, so we caught our 66 and headed home after waking up at 4 a.m.
