Whistler,BC - April 13, 2009 -
The producers of the national competition, Mr. Gay Canada [MGC], proudly announce the new visual for the project. Also, a dot.ca name was arranged so that in addition to the www.mrgaycanada.com name visitors can go to www.mrgaycanada.ca

MGC Logo Designer
After a nation-wide search, the original design for the new look of Mr. Gay Canada competition was awarded to Eric Abel. Graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Advertising and Fine Arts in the Philippines and a diploma in Fashion Merchandising from the Blanche Macdonald School of Applied Arts in Vancouver-Canada, Eric Abel had delved into different aspects of design, from layout, freehand drawing, lettering, traditional visual arts, graphic design and displays. Career profiles include seasonal campaigns for Il Nido Restaurant, branding for lalalez.com, VanKino, and LushHive.com and the advertising campaign for the 2009 season of Vancouver's Next Gay Top Model.

Eric is very thrilled to add his logo design for Mr. Gay Canada in his list of achievements. When asked what the logo means, Eric proudly explains that "...the logo represents what can be the most identifiable element in being Canadian: the red maple leaf in the flag.  The leaf was modified to show that we can be alternative without compromising who we are or what we represent.  The initials within the maple leaf depict modern while the name (Mr. Gay Canada) conveys regality; together representative of what Mr. Gay Canada is." www.ericabelonline.com

Darren Bruce as Mr. Gay Canada
Darren Bruce at Lost Lake, Whistler
North Vancouver's Engineer, Darren Bruce, commands his title as the 2008 Mr. Gay Canada with great respect and pizzazz. Only into his first 6 months as title holder, Bruce has come out, literally, to schools, rallies, met leaders from Vancouver to Oslo, hosted events and is currently working with HIM (Health Initiative for Men) on a new project that will implement free condom dispensers at gay venues. Bruce is to be commended for his work as Mr. Gay Canada. You can view the public service announcement videos and follow Bruce's steps through his blog in the official www.mrgaycanada.ca site.

Other notable achievement Mr. Gay Canada has accomplished includes having the TV Ratings company "Neilson" ranking the two part TV Series "Mr. Gay Canada" on the OUTtv network the number one show in the month of March.  Also, Darren Bruce competed in the first Mr. Gay World Competition with 19 other delegates around the world during the annual GayWhistler WinterPRIDE Festival in mountain resort of Whistler, BC.  Darren commanded an impressive top five placement and has since fostered new international friendships.

Who will be the next Mr. Gay Canada?
The producers of MGC are beginning to look for a new crop of intelligent, committed men that want to support the mission of the Mr. Gay Canada and join the MGC League. Even though only one-person can hold the title of Mr. Gay Canada during the one-year rein, all delegates that participate in the MGC competition join the League and work together towards awareness of issues and equality for all. In 2009 multiple city heats are being planned, culminating in the 3-day outdoor/indoor grand finale, in the fall, in a yet to be determined Canadian locale. The 2009 search begins this May in the city of Toronto.
