Nutrition Nugget
kale Kale

Kale is a form of cabbage and one of the oldest varieties that was first grown in the Mediterranean. It is a type of 'cooking greens' which means they are green and leafy vegetables that are often too bitter to be eaten raw and should be cooked to take the bitterness out. Though greens in general are nutritious foods, kale stands above the rest. Kale is one of the  best sources of beta-carotene - an antioxidant believed by many nutrition experts to be a major player in the battle against cancer, heart disease, and certain age-related chronic diseases. Kale is also an excellent source of nutrients, especially vitamin A and calcium. It's high fiber content helps fill you up and to keeps you full for a good amount of time.
With it's winning combination of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, kale is a  dream food for healthy living!

Greetings!

It's not really September is it?  The concepts and notions of "time" will forever intrigue me. Another season shift impending.  Different seasons can make us feel different ways, bring up past memories and happenings. I'm hearing people express mixed emotions from remorse of summer's end to eagerly welcoming fall.  Seasons and weather can no question dictate how we "feel", but ultimately it is what's going on "inside" ourselves that is more revealing. The more centered you can get within - the more joy you will experience in your everyday and be able to embrace change in all things including the seasons. It's important to not be afraid to question - What  truly feeds you?   When do you feel your rhythm?  Are you in the flow?  Considering the passing of time is a constant and continues in it's fluidity, I encourage you to learn how to follow your intuition and truly feel your power in the now. Here lies your bliss.

Carpe Diem ~  Lynn

Back to school survival tips for parents

Although kids are so amazingly adaptable - starting a new school year is a big change and can feel scary with loaded schedules, new classmates, and pressures. As a former teacher, I know first hand how much it means to a child to know their parents care about what's happening at school. I'm also well aware of how taxing the daily grind can be for the "rents"!

- Plan ahead as much as possible (ideally the weekend prior) for the weekly meals and events so that things will go smoothly.

- Try your best to prepare nutritious meals and avoid the "junk"! Your relationship will be much more harmonious with your kids if their bodies are filled with healthy foods and are feeling good on the inside.

- Be an active communicator with your kids about their school days. School occupies a lot of their time and believe me they are sensitive to your amount of interest. Your level of enthusiasm will feed theirs.

- Enough sleep for everyone is crucial! Consistent bedtime routines are key.

- Parenting requires the utmost amount of giving of yourself.  What is it you need to feel fulfilled? What is something new you want to learn? We need to show up for ourselves to fully show up for others.

- Set up a routine time for getting homework done (and out of the way). Make your expectations clear, follow thru, and of course give help if needed.

- If you feel overwhelmed, ask for help from family, friends or other parents. There's a whole lot to be said for the "it takes a village" concept! Support one another.

-  LOOK TO GRATITUDE - Appreciate yourself and the amazing gift you've been given in helping shape your child's development and life, as well as how much they enrich your own!
