Greetings!

What's the purpose of your resume? It's your "sales pitch", a marketing tool to help you get an interview.

It's your "value proposition": what value do you bring to the employer.
Donna Tucker speaking at the Employment Network
Donna Tucker speaking at the Employment Network
Make sure you customize each resume to the job posting with the same keywords.

Always include some accomplishments. Compare your numbers to something like: in the top 20 sales of 300 to make it look impressive.

Use action verbs not "Responsible for..." - the pretend "I". For example: I managed..., I streamlined.... but take out the "I". If you can put an "I" in front of the verb, then it's a good action verb.

It can be 2 pages, but not more than that.

Always include a cover letter. Give them the choice of reading it or not.

Put relevant experience at the top even if it's out of chronological order.

The rules of the resume are made to be broken.

Special thanks to Donna Tucker for speaking at our last meeting and helping many folks with their resumes. You can contact her at: 602/788-3121, jobsaz@att.net or on her website: www.4greatresumes.com.

Hope to see you on Wednesday at 6:30 pm in
room A-202!

Sincerely,

Watch Out for Scams
by Giselle Aguiar

You're unemployed, starting to get desperate and that offer that just came into your email inbox or the job posting on Craig's List looks too good to be true. I hate to disappoint you, but it is.

ABC15 did a story on scams targeting the unemployed recently.

You didn't win the lottery, have an uncle that died and left you a fortune or just happen to be the one person someone in Nigeria contacted to help them transfer millions of dollars into the U.S.

I personally got snookered many years ago and ended up losing $3000 of my mother's money plus a few hundred in long distance phone calls.

Never, ever give anyone money up front for any type of reward, kick-back, bonus, exchange or delivery. It's a SCAM.

Also, never give any employer your social security number or date of birth unless, they've already interviewed you and a credit check is a requirement for hiring. You should be able to decline to include it in an online application.

Take your street address off your resume for your own protection. Check all the ones you posted online too. You don't need your address to be freely accessible online.

Be cautious and careful and remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
