Greetings!

2010Nothing like adding 115 degree heat on top of your already stressful life!

Keeping your cool in Phoenix in the summer takes a whole different meaning when you're dealing with job hunting.

Sure you're worried, scared, angry and frustrated. But you need to stay positive otherwise your anger will come across as aggression in a job interview.

Dress in light clothing, but professionally. Guys, wear a tie, but don't put it on until you get there. Ladies, wear sleeveless blouses and light, unlined blazer. Remember, you're competing with a few dozen people for the job and the first impression of professionalism counts immensely.

Don't complain about the heat. Live with it.

Hope to see you on Wednesday at 6:30 pm!

Sincerely,

The Employment Network Team

Working for the Government
2010
A special thanks goes to Denise Jones, Recruitment Specialist at the Arizona Department of Economic Security for speaking to the group on July 7th. She provided great tips on how to apply for jobs with the different government agencies. If you missed the last meeting, here is a recap of what she covered. Visit azstatejobs.gov to search their job openings.

  • If applying to the state, you need to create one master resume on the site.
  • 99% of the time, cover letters aren't read - but submit one anyway.
  • Chronological resumes are preferred.
  • All your info should be on the resume.
  • More than one page is OK.
  • Print the job posting for reference on a phone interview because once it expires, it's gone from the website.
  • City and county agencies work differently. Check their respective websites for details.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

~Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV)
