Greetings!

Hello from the End of the Road.

The colors here in Ely are spectacular. Our Autumn canoe trippers continue to rent canoes and book full-outfitting trips. Ely has been a busy place these last couple of weeks, becoming a new temporary home away from home for roughly 800 firefighters and staff.

The fish have their hungry bite on again and we've had warm days with cool nights. It is time to rent a warmer sleeping bag, but other than that, it is a great time to be in the woods.

We've continued to update you on a daily basis during the week on our blog and Facebook on the progress of the fire containment. Some road closures, entry points and trails are now open again. One of the easiest way to get an overall view of events here is to take some time to read over the updates on our blog.

News from the Outfitting Desk

It has been a great summer here in Ely. We are excited about the new friends we've made both in the store and through our outfitting department. Many of you have sent in pictures and reports of your canoe trips to show your love of the Boundary Waters (keep it up, we can always use more). It was fantastic to see the faces of old friends and hear about your new trips as well.

While this Fall has brought some excitement and change, we have high hopes for next season and we're already booking guided trips for next year as folks plan their vacation to this beautiful place.

"I believe the weather for our trip was the best I've ever had on any trip anywhere. We were on the water from Sept. 4-10 and evidently just beat the fire. Drew and Adam were great to work with but let me tell you about Crystal in the Piragis outlet section. I'm thinking the usual t-shirt but Crystal steers me in a new direction over to the dress rack. Tomorrow is October 1st. The day that many people arrive in Ely to pick up their 2011 Used Canoe. They've long ago put down their deposit and it is time to pay off the balance and take their new rental canoe home. The great weather has allowed us to get these canoes ready for their new owners even though we've had a very busy September. The outfitting crew has done a fantastic job!
