The 2010 season has pretty much ended. Our last rental canoe (actually it was the new Canak by Wenonah) came back earlier this week and we don't have any more paddlers on the books so was that the last client? We'll find out with each passing day.
People are already calling to plan their trips in 2011. In fact, we have a few who have made their official reservation for next summer. For you early planners, keep in mind that we can get you into the lottery for Boundary Waters permits starting December 1st and ending January 15th. This always gives you the best chance to get the permit you want on the date you plan to start your adventure. After that, permits are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Quetico permits are again on the 5 month in advance plan. For instance, if you want to start a Quetico trip on June 8th, we want to call to reserve that permit on the morning of January 8th. Please keep this in mind for all you trippers who enjoy that side of the border.
Our Guided Group Trips are now planned for 2011. For those of you that would like us to take care of everything and make your trip easy, try one of these fun journeys. As always, they are fully outfitted, guided, and we include a motel room at the beginning and end of the trip. Sign up soon so you get your spots reserved. Please check our
website for more details and prices or give Bert or Drew a call.

A few notes about our new trips:· We are offering two new guided Quetico trips this season and who better to guide them than Dave Maynard. He was the Quetico Park Assistant Park Superintendent for many years. He knows the ins and outs of the park and will share his vast knowledge of Quetico.
· Our buddy Cliff Jacobson is going to "come out of retirement" and join our superb guide Steve Johnson for a trip this summer. You'll travel with two of the most experienced guides and canoeing experts. This trip is going to fill up fast so get on board soon.
· Two Bear Trips are on the schedule this summer. With the growing popularity of Ely's North American Bear Center, it only seemed fitting to have a bear themed trip just as we do a wolf trip with help from the International Wolf Center here in Ely. Come and learn about another one of the Northwood's beautiful creatures.
USED GEAR is still for sale. Get those pieces that you were needing to update at a good price. For the canoeist in your family, get a few nice things for gifts since the holidays are coming up soon.
Enjoy the rest of the Fall season. Get out and paddle if you can. We'll be here to answer your calls and emails. We look forward to hearing from you and making your canoe trip a reality in 2011.
From the end of the road,
