President Obama Signs Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act on January 29, 2009. The bill's provisions are immediately now in force and are retroactively applied back to May 28, 2007. The retroactive effective date will permit Ms. Ledbetter to maintain her discriminatory pay claim against her former employer, Goodyear Tire & Rubber,Inc., which was dismissed by the U. S. Supreme Court on May 29, 2007. Read more

Among the many bills pending before Congress, The Paycheck Fairness Act is but one piece of legislation that has the potential to significantly impact employment related litigation. This piece of legislation has passed the House of Representatives and is now sitting with the Senate. If enacted, this bill would update the 1963 Equal Pay Act ("EPA") and subject employers to new regulations and stricter penalties for violations. Read more | |
