Quotes to Live By!
"It is not length of life, but depth of life." "The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit" | |
,
Don't worry about forms If someone wants your horse, let him have it. Horses are for
hurrying ahead of the others.
When the ocean surges,
don't let me just hear it.
Let it splash inside my chest.

Disappearing Fireflies Like Fourth-of-July fireworks, cool swims on hot days, and lazy vacations, fireflies are a sign of summer. Many of us have cherished memories of spotting and catching them during warm summer evenings and running through fields that sparkled as if strewn with stars. But there are signs our kids may not grow up with the same firefly memories we had. That's because fireflies are disapperaing from marshes, fields and forests all over the country-and all over the world. And if it continues, fireflies may fade forever, leaving our summer nights a little darker and less magical.

Why Are Fireflies Disappearing? Nobody knows for sure. But most researchers blame two main factors: development and light pollution. The problem is that in America and throughout the world, our open fields and forests are being paved over, and our waterways are seeing more development and noisy boat traffic. As their habitat disappears under housing and commercial developments, firefly numbers dwindle. Logging, pollution and increased use of pesticides may also contribute to destroying firefly habitat and natural prey. |

Poet of the East
Submitted by: Zahida Chaudhary, MD Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal is considered as one of the greatest minds of early 20th century, Shair-e-Mashriq's (Poet of the East) His poetry and philosophy has had a deep impact on the thoughts and minds of millions across the whole of South Asia. Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born in Sialkot, in the present-day province of the Punjab in Pakistan, in 1877. He was educated at Government College, Lahore, Pakistan. In Europe from 1905 to 1908, he earned his degree in philosophy from the University of Cambridge, qualified as a Barrister in London, and received a Doctorate degree from the University of Munich. His thesis, The Development of Metaphysics in Persia, revealed some aspects of Islamic mysticism formerly unknown in Europe. Being educated both in the east and the west gave him a unique perspective to tackle the problems of modern times. Iqbal wrote in English, Urdu and Persian. Significant poems from this period are, Shikwah ("The Complaint"), Jawab-e shikwah ("The Answer to the Complaint"), Khizr-e rah (1924 "Khizr, the Guide"), long Persian poem Asrar-e khudi (The Secrets of the Self), Bang-e dara ("The Call of the Bell"). He is considered the greatest poet in Urdu of the 20th century. Written as a counterpoint to the individualism preached in the Asrar-e khudi, this poem called for self-surrender.
"Lo, like a candle wrestling with the night O'er my own self I pour my flooding tears. I spent my self, that there might be more light, More loveliness, more joy for other men"
Perfection, or rather limitless perfection, is a frequently occurring motif in Iqbal's poetry. Iqbal sees no end to human potentialities. He wishes humans to embark on a never-ending journey of discovery, Nations fall behind when they cease to be dynamic and start preferring a life of idle speculation over one of purposive action. How to Get Less Busy/Work Less
Develop or reconnect with your sense of play or creativity!
Get yourself to play or do something creative that you have energy for, even if you have to force yourself at firlst or schedule these things in. Once you get engaged. theese activities may have a life of their own and call you from work to more playfullness. It may take more initial energy to read a book or set up your easel and paint then watch TV, but once you get involved in the creative act, you will probably want to do more and the activity will likely call you again and again.
