Quotes to Live By!
"The only journey is the journey within."
"The first step in the acquisition of wisdom is silence, the second listening, the third memory, the fourth practice, the fifth teaching others." ~Solomon Ibn Gabriol

"The journey of a thousand miles starts from beneath your feet." ~Lao-Tzu | |

Soul receives from soul that knowledge, therefore not by book nor from tongue. If knowledge of mysteries come after emptiness of mind, that is illumination of heart.

Staff Corner Simplifying (part 3)
Sometimes our attempts to be happy backfire. One of the ways we attempt to be happy is to maximize our choices. Here are some things to try as experiments to discover whether having too many choices might be making you less happy. One Thing at a Time Stop multi-tasking and experiment with doing only the thing you are doing. Or attend only to the person or experience you are with at the moment. Listen to and watch the person you are conversing with (rather than texting, glancing at the television, thinking about what you will do or say next, etc.) Resource: Bill O'Hanlon, 223 N. Nature Nook "Eat Local"
In North America, fruits and vegetables travel an average of 1,500 miles before reaching your dinner table.
What Can You Do?
Buying local not only saves energy used to ship produce, but also preserves flavor and nutrients. Here are three avenues for picking fresh, local produce.
1. Visit the local farmers' market.
3. Get involved with a community garden or start one on your own. See www.communitygarden.org to see what's growing in your neighborhood and for tips on planting your own crops.
Join a Community Supported Agriculture group (CSA). CSA members prepay a fixed seasonal fee to a local farmer in exchange for a weekly share of the harvest, delivered to a location near your home. Don't wait, though. CSAs are popular and can fill up. For information on joining a CSA group near you, go to nal.usda.gov/afsic/csa, sare.org/csa or justfood.org.

EVERY DAY A POEM by Chuck Joy, MD
every day a poem the many minutes arranged into as pleasing a composition as can be
the opening borrowing from everything has ever gone before, every character present from the first beat especially the narrator a voice at least an enveloping intelligence one particular consciousness the limits of a universe
complete with distant galaxies bubbling contentedly away vast tracts of black space tiny spaceships, zipping, all this, resisting meaning closer to home
weather systems, television, good intentions, bad decisions, stage directions, plot twists right up to the minute and the music god of energy, thank you thank you for the rhythm swinging syllables like drumsticks or a wedding ring against the steering wheel a kind of soundtrack however brilliant or exhausted gray music, like rain except words the cryptic melody of letters
