February 2009
Greetings!

We are instructed to carry a love for one another, and to show a great respect for all the beings of this Earth. We are shown that our life exists with tree life,
gardenthat our well being depends on the well -being of the Vegetable Life, that we are close relatives of the four-legged beings. In our ways, spiritual consciousness is the highest form of politics.

Spring Coming Earlier

                            garden

Tired of winter? Good news: Spring arrives an average of 1.7 days earlier now than it did in the first half of the 20th century. The shifts occur at the same time humans are known to be influencing the climate. The Earth is certainly warming. The planet's tilt toward the sun defines its seasons. On land, there's about a 30-day lag between the sun at its maximum intensity and when the Earth is warmest. That's because it takes the Earth those extra 30 days to soak up all the sun's energy. the Earth is responding faster, shifting all of the seasons.

 Opposite Emotion Action
Do you experience resentment and tension in a relationship in your life? Or would you like to make a good relationship even better? Try this one simple thing.

                       garden

Take a step back. Observe and experience your emotion. Suspend judgment. Know that you are not your emotion. Focus on your breathing, as you allow the emotion to wash over you like a wave. Then try an "opposite emotion action," a DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skill we often refer to in our groups...

 Is A Matter of Choice

Sometimes our attempts to be happy backfire. One of the ways we attempt to be happy is to maximize our choices. Here are some things to try as experiments to discover whether having too many choices might be making you less happy.

Make a "Not to Do" List
Notice what you are doing that is draining your energy, wasting your time or isn't aligned with your values and preferred life directions. If necessary, make post-it notes to remind your self of what not to do (and why if that will help) and put them them in strategic places in your life (for example, put one on the television if you have a habit you would like to change of watching mindless television shows and remind yourself to read a book, spend time with a loved one or just go to sleep earlier).

Get rid of one non-essential item per day
It could be some papers in a stack that has been sitting for some time; it could be an object that you no longer use or which no long er fits you or your life. Find one thing each day and donate it, give it away, or toss it out.

The Happy Virus

I caught the happy virus last night
When I was out singing beneath the stars
It is remarkably contagious-----
So kiss me.
