Programs Committee Message by Iris Andre, CREW Sacramento Director of Programs Managing Director, CB Richard Ellis
CREW Sacramento Programs Committee's mission for 2012 is to provide exciting monthly luncheon programs that are topical and relevant to our organization's members. The committee is charged with selecting a venue that will accommodate groups between 60 and 120, offers adequate parking, and meets our AV needs, and offers appetizing luncheon selections. Consistency of timing of events, quality of events and providing long range program planning for the balance of the year is our focus. As with all goals, they are the core to the organization.
The Programs Committee works as a team and we have taken on our task this year with great optimism. We are excited to have our full year of programs planned, an initial review of alternative venues to accommodate our group, and a year of diversity of programs and member events. We are excited to be underway with our planning for the 30th CREW Sacramento Anniversary this June. Look for your special invites shortly.
Our team is always looking for ways to better our events. We look forward to hearing from our peers as we look to find topics that would interest the group or new buildings that would provide a local educational event. We have had our challenges these last few years with little or no new developments but recent activity means that we will be looking forward to building tours again soon.
CREW Sacramento is a professional organization that provides its members programs, education and networking to our members. We are proud to be part of this great organization and provide the glue that gets us all together.
Thank You!

All eight of CREW Network's California chapters assembled for the 2012 California Conference, "The Next Wave in Commercial Real Estate," April 19-20, 2012. Five CREW Sacramento members attended. One of the featured speakers was Ted Tanner, Executive Vice President, Real Estate Development, AEG Worldwide. He provided an opportunity to experience first-hand the ongoing transformation that is taking place in downtown Los Angeles. All those in attendance got to experience L.A. Live from all different aspects: development, retail, condo/loft living and a tour of the Grammy Museum.

CREW Network Study & Strategies
CREW Network Outlines Strategies for Success for Women in CRE
Lack of Equal Pay Contributes to Level of Dissatisfaction
In its latest white paper, CREW Network recommends strategies for women to overcome the pay and promotion level disparities that continue to exist in the field of commercial real estate.
In short, recommended strategies include:
- Develop an understanding of the market value of their skills.
- Talk to recruiters to get their insights on compensation. Speak with colleagues and share details of compensation and benefits to common advantage.
- Stay in touch with colleagues while taking a leave of absence, be a life-long learner and find ways to continue to develop their skills.
- Articulate their wants and needs. Negotiate for what they deserve.
- Communicate their accomplishments and achievements to those who matter.
- Raise their hands to volunteer for stretch assignments.
- Network, network, network.
- Look for sponsors to help propel them to the top of the ladder and help others do the same.
The white paper, Success and Satisfaction of Women in Commercial Real Estate: Retaining Exceptional Leaders, includes a summary of responses from its interviews with 20 senior commercial real estate executives regarding select findings from CREW Network's 2010 benchmark study, Women in Commercial Real Estate 2010. That study - part of CREW Network's tracking of women and men in commercial real estate that began in 2005 - found that more women are entering the field of commercial real estate, but that pay and promotion levels remain obstacles.
The objective of the interviews for this white paper was to discuss and provide insight into issues related to success and satisfaction in the workplace in the hope that organizations will develop and implement plans designed to retain and promote the women among their ranks.
