| Be a Smart Sheep: Our Customer Appreciation Program |
Here's how it works: For every $350 in fiber purchases (yarn, coned yarn, spinning fiber) you will receive a coupon good for 60 days for $25 off your next purchase. The coupon may be redeemed against ANY purchase - equipment, classes, needles, whatever. The coupon may only be used once. Further, each time you redeem a coupon you will be entered in an annual drawing to receive a really nice prize -- this year a set of four dish towels, handwoven by Clara and designed by Joan. The annual drawing will be held at our New Year's Day Party. Each time you make a fiber purchase your rewards status will print on your receipt. |

Greetings! This Thursday evening the Village will have an official opening ceremony for the "remodel" that took place in our downtown over the last few months. We are grateful that you were willing to bear with us when parking was scarce and streets didn't exactly get you where you wanted to go via any direct route. You have no idea how glad I am that the work is done. I had a double whammy! I live on Atwater -- the street that was used as the detour from M-24 to Orion Road. It is good to have the traffic flow "back to normal" which means it isn't as dicey to get out of our driveway! | | Will you be the lucky winner? |
The construction drawing will take place on October 1. You still have time to come in and enter. Each time you make a purchase, you are entered in the drawing to win the pair of towels pictured at right or one of two $25 gift certificates. You may enter to win through September 30. SALE, SALE, SALE I promised you a sale when the construction was complete. Mark Saturday, October 1st on your calendar -- everything will be on sale and some special items will be available at good prices so that the new yarns have a place to live. We will have special hours that day: we will be open from 9 to 5. Chilly nights! It's almost official: fall is here. Serious fiber folks know that it is time to trade garden trowels for knitting needles. Did you know that a mixtures of olive oil and sugar or lemon juice and salt when rubbed into rough hands make them smooth again and able to deal with fine wools and silks without sticking to your hands? Stocking up for winter New yarns are coming in weekly. If you haven't been in for a while, stop in and see the latest, a few of which are in the spotlight below. Fall Fiber Retreat If you've always wanted to attend one of our fiber retreats on Bois Blanc Island, you may be in luck as we've had some cancellations. This time around it starts on 9/23 and ends 9/26. Contact Christa at Insel Haus to inquire: (231) 634-7393 or inselhaus@gmail.com. |

Our spinning wiz's are going to SOAR to learn more good stuff to share with us, so there will be no spinning help in October. Spinning help returns in November, but open spinning will still happen the afternoon of the second Saturday in October.

New in the store | |

Shepherd's Wool DK has arrived and it includes colors new to their line of yarn. It's kinda fun to know that we helped out in creating the new colors (thanks, Shar!). I had the pleasure of taking a tour of Stonehedge's spinning room last week. They have doubled their workspace with this new facility - literally right down the hill from my parent's home in East Jordan. Deb and Chuck got into the carding business about the time I opened Heritage. Watching them grow has been a real pleasure. I'm proud to support their business by stocking their line of yarn made from US wool and spun in Michigan.
These three yarns came in from Chrystal Palace:
New colors of Merino 5 (no photo). Here's a free pattern for a sweet baby sweater.

Brand new yarn (and very un-Joan!): Tutu (above) in three colors. At just $7.60 a skein, you can have a ton of fun and a scarf in an evening. Also consider using this as collar and cuff trim on a dressy sweater. Click here for instructions for knitting with the yarn and here for a free pattern.

Moonshine - six colors at $10.60 a skein. Fiber content: 73% nylon/10% kid mohair/9% wool/8%metallic. This yarn had the staff ooohing and aaaahing! It is a good substitute for Ritratto. And one more free pattern here.

Media. Here are just a few of the new releases that came in last week: Kuko Dolls DVD and books: Cowlgirls; Knit Doilies; Knitted Pierates, Princesses, Witches, Wizards and Fairies; Knit One Knit All and my favorite: The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook. Come see what's new in our world. That cone in the picture? That's one of a new batch of mill end yarns. Extremely affordable, 90% cotton, 10% synthetic.

Click on the class calendar on the class page on our website and see what is starting and what is already underway or ongoing.
Reversible Knitting
Reversible knitting has always captured my imagination. After all, there ARE two sides to every fabric and in the case of scarves, both sides are seen. Another cool use in in shawl collars. Your whole sweater can be in one pattern, but when the collar is folded, you see a different but complimentary pattern. Monica has a class designed that will answer questions that you never knew you had about reversible knitting as well as assist you in swatching and selecting a project. Monica is a wonderful teacher that puts a lot of thought into her classes. Her handouts are worth the price of admission alone. What are you waiting for? Call the shop and sign up now! Class is two sessions long and starts 9/20.
Reminder The Knitting Boot Camp class that was slated to begin 9/22 has being pushed back to a start date of 10/6 to allow more people can register.

Heritage Blog Resurrected
Last night I was writing the newsletter and realized that I was trying to cram too much stuff in, but I had more to say. That's when I decided it was time to resurrect the Heritage Blog. I invite you to come on over and read what I cut from the newsletter. I hope you enjoy it and I'll keep it up now that the newsletter only comes out every month or so.
