Further, each time you redeem a coupon you will be entered in an annual drawing to receive a really nice prize including a $100 gift certificate and a handwoven "something" for the home. 2010's prize is a set of four dishtowels woven by Clara. Greetings!
Shop Hop Winners Our expanded Shop Hop was indeed a hit! We gave away well over a hundred gifts and had lots of passports turned in to the shop. In fact, more people participated this year than in any year in the years we've been doing it. The GRAND PRIZE winner of the set of Addi Clicks is Lynn Adams of Troy. Darlene Linski of Macomb is the lucky winner of a $50 gift certificate from Heritage. Thanks to all who participated - we had fun watching the travelling fashion show.
Since way back when it was my idea to have the Shop Hop, we are the shop given the priviledge of drawing from all the completed passports to determine who the winners are. I asked our Wednesday morning knitting group to do the honors this year. Here Sally draws for one of the gift certificates. They took their job quite seriously (notice Sally's closed eyes!) and we had a lot of fun. Congratulations to all the winners!
Knit Michigan 2011
Well, it's that time again (already!). Time to register to attend Knit Michigan 2011. This year all classes are open to everyone. Register for one, two or three classes. You can even prepay admission on-line using a credit card. We are very pleased with our new website, contributed and designed by Mary Rios, one of "our" weavers and owner of Rocket Girl Sites. Mary spent a LOT of time helping us get it to where it is now and we are very grateful for her ongoing help. Click here to register for Knit Michigan 2011. Mark your calendar now for Saturday, February 5, 2011. Hope to see you there! |

With only sending a newsletter once a month, I have to be choosey about what I tell you about. Here's a selection of "recents": | | ` |
Amity Print is a machine washable wool and acrylic yarn that is made to stand up to kids! This is, as you can see, a self-striping yarn. An Ella Rae design booklet supports it. Specifics: Fiber: 75% Acrylic, 25% Wool Yardage: 200 Stitches: 5 Needle size: 8. Some of you may remember a few years back when we had some really nice vinyl totes. Enough of you asked, so we brought them back. We have one-hole yarn caddies, notions bags, totes and the "craft" bags above. I chose the bag on the left to hold my current hat design projects. Just enough room for a couple skeins, notebook, notions pouch and the work in process. I like the way they open - the double zipper creates a three-sided opening, that makes it easy to see everything and you don't loose things in the bottom. The next larger size is perfect for a sweater. The long-awaited Addi Lace Clicks are finally here. If you are a lace knitter, or if you prefer your needle tips to be a little pointier, then this would be a good thing to find under the Christmas tree. We only received six sets, so don't waste any time coming in ... I'm sure they won't last long.
There are several different one-skein and gift knitting books, but never have I seen them fly off the shelf like this one did. We have already placed a second order. One of our staff members commented, "It is a really good book. I can find a lot of things in it that I want to knit." I know many of you have a sock yarn stash. This book might provide inspiration for stash reduction. |

Click on the class calendar on the class page on our website and see what is starting and what is already underway or ongoing.
The Fiber Explorer class is one of my favorite classes ever. It reminds me of one of my foundation art classes in college. It gets my brain humming for days. I thought I'd share a few photos with you from the last class. Our current project is working with non-traditional items/fibers. We can use knitting, crochet, weaving, or ___ (fill in the blank) as our medium. It is fun playing with the possibilities. If you'd like to join us, it is $30 a class. We meet next on Saturday, January 8 at 9:30 a.m.
| | This is Annie's color wheel. How creative! |
| | For our color and shape project, Diane whipped up these connected pencil (knitting needle) cozies. How fun! |
| | Suzanne found a free pattern for mini sweaters (www.berroco.com) to illustrate our color/shape assignment. Her idea is to continue to make mini sweaters using leftovers from past projects. By doing this she will be making not only Christmas tree decorations, but also visual memories of her knitting history. |
| | Our first assignment was to produce a cozy. Annie chose to add decoration to her cane. She liked it so well that she's left it on (except for a business meeting with her boss, that is!). | Christa returns! As in past years, Christa Kindt-Newhouse ( www.yarndreamer.com) will teach several classes in January and February. She specializes in working with alpaca and has created incredible double knitting, brioche and lace patterns that she is going to teach here. Here are a couple photos to whet your interest:

Charity Projects
Thanks so much to those of you who brought in fabric for my mom and her (Catholic) prayer quilt ministry. They really appreciated it. I had to chuckle when Mom told me the story of a piece of donated fabric that didn't suit the traditional-type quilting that they do. One of the ladies said, "Oh, send it to the Lutherans." Seems their ministry makes blankets for disaster response (think Katrina victims) and the homeless. Their blankets tend to be "sturdier." So, it appears as if any fabric will find a good, charitable home.
Speaking of charity work. I've got a Knit Michigan project in the shop that needs to be finished. We have a small stack of breast cancer pillows that need stuffed and sewn shut. The work can either be done by hand or machine. We have the filling, just need help putting it all together by the time of Knit Michigan in February. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know.
End of the Year/Start of the New
Our annual New Year's Day party is on! I'll have a couple pots of soup to share and lots of chairs for sitting and knitting. We will also have a wee sale to celebrate 2012. If you are hearty, you might want to join us at 10:00 a.m. for the New Year's Resolution Run/Walk. It's a very invigorating way to start the year!
Happy Holidays!
