| Be a Smart Sheep: Our Customer Appreciation Program |
Here's how it works: For every $350 in fiber purchases (yarn, coned yarn, spinning fiber) you will receive a coupon good for 60 days for $25 off your next purchase. The coupon may be redeemed against ANY purchase - equipment, classes, needles, whatever. Further, each time you redeem a coupon you will be entered in an annual drawing to receive a really nice prize including a $100 gift certificate and a handwoven "something" for the home. 2010's prize is a set of four dishtowels woven by Clara. The drawing will be held each year at our Annual New Year's Day Party. Each time you make a purchase your rewards status will print on your receipt. Complete details at HSW. | |

| Greetings!
Fiber Art Show
Tomorrow is the last day to drop off projects to be entered into the Heritage Annual Fiber Art Show benefiting cancer research. No project is too big! No project is too small! Submit them all!
Visit the show and vote: October 3 through October 9. Attend the awards reception (you could be a winner!): October 10
Remember - 100% of all funds raised are donated for cancer research at the UM Comprehensive Cancer Center in memory of our friend Maureen Keenan who lost her battle with melanoma last year. There is a small fee for entry - an entry form and flier have been posted to our website.
Shop Hop
Mark your calendars now and save the dates. Yes, dates. We are adding two stores and expanding it into a 2-day event. It will be held Saturday and Sunday, November 13 and 14. As soon as we receive final confirmation from the 7th shop, we will let you know and full details will be posted to the website and via Facebook. Here is a sneak preview: we've added a grand prize this year -- a set of Addi Click needles! Plus, the goodies and giveaways will be better than ever. |

Click on the class calendar on the class page on our website and see what is starting and what is already underway or ongoing.
Fall classes are off and running. Feels good to be back in school. We've got two classes running this month that are new for us and I'm very excited about. The first is Fiber Explorers. We are going to use yarn and roving as our playgrounds and explore our artistic selves. If you aren't sure if this is for you, I invite you to come to the first class this Saturday at no obligation to see what it is all about. If you like it - you can pay tuition and join the class. We are going to have a great time!
The second class is called "If the Glove Fits Wear It!" We are going to make close fitting gloves that fit your hand. Really fit. The kind of gloves that you keep in your pocket during the winter and wear all the time. Have a smart phone that requires skin contact? You will learn how to make gloves that will work with your phone! Knit with 6 ply sock yarn, there isn't as much knitting as you'd think and you'll have a pair of gloves before the snow comes!
Upcoming Classes:
Fair Isle Friends - Ongoing class on 2nd Sunday of each month
Fiber Explorers 10/2
Focus on Fair Isle - postponed to November - we need a few more participants. This class is likely switching to Sundays.
Fish Sweater 10/9
If the Glove Fits, Wear it! 10/19
Big and Lofty Yarns (spinning) 11/13
Log Cabin Scarf (for the Rigid Heddle) 11/20

Looking for:
- Cotton fabric for charity quilts. My mom makes prayer quilts for people in her parish, residents of East Jordan and even some of my friends. She makes machine pieced quilts that are hand tied with prayers by everyone that attends mass that week - they tie a knot and say a prayer as they leave church. Anyhow, she's getting low on fabric and I wonder if any of you have some that you'd like to see go to a good home. She says any size larger than 5 x 5 inches is fair game and will be well appreciated. Drop it off at the shop and I'll deliver.
- Canvas tote bags. Orion/Oxford FISH is collecting grocery store-type canvas bags for clients to use to carry their food. If you'd like to drop your extras off at the shop anytime before the end of October, we'll make sure they are delivered to FISH (Come on ... I know you have them stuffed in a bag somewhere -- can you tell where mine are?).
- The Remnants Ministry has a drop box at the shop for old eye-glasses. They are repurposed for the needy. Bring yours in and give them a new home.
Chemo Cap Design Contest
Knit Michigan is sponsoring a chemo cap design contest open to all. Details here. Deadline is January 15 for entries. Entries must include the original written pattern and the hat will be donated for charity. Winners will be selected by the voting public at Knit Michigan. The grand prize is a set of Addi Clicks, Addi t-shirt and Addi back pack. Other prizes will be awarded. If you aren't already signed up to receive the Knit Michigan newsletters, do so now so you can take part in this excitement. Sign up at www.knitmichigan.com.
Special Olympics Scarf Project
A group is working to gather 2,500 hand knitted or crocheted (I'm sure they wouldn't turn away hand woven ones either) scarves for the Michigan Special Winter Olympics in February. Deadline for entry is January 12. Drop your scarves off at Heritage and we'll deliver them to the organizers. Scarves must be 6" wide by 50 to 60 inches long. |
| Calendar Girl | |
Since retiring from Orion Township a couple years ago, Jill has become very serious about her knitting. She knits prolifically for other cancer patients, friends and especially her daughter. Then months ago she submitted an original design to a calendar company for inclusion in their 2011 calendar. She heard nothing, so assumed it wasn't accepted and then - lo and behold - one day a couple weeks ago she got an unexpected box in the mail with the return address of Simon and Schuster. She WAS accepted and is the bonus pattern for October. Needless to say, Jill is tickled and so are we. She managed to get our webpage publlished in the calendar, too. Thanks, Jill, and CONGRATULATIONS!

| Heritage Gallery: not gone or forgotten. Just moved. | |
In the interest of shortening the newsletter a bit, I'm going to start posting our finished project photos to the Heritage Facebook page and to a gallery on the website. If you aren't already signed up as a FB fan, please do so! I find FB a great way to keep in touch with the young people in my life, former classmates and my family. Thank goodness there's a Facebook app - it makes it easy for me to check in a couple times a day right from my phone and see what's up. Not being tied to a computer to use it is helpful. The Gallery should be live on the website in a week or so. |

What's new
Sorry, no photos this issue, but the yarns are gorgeous never-the-less. Here's a sampling:
Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool XL - an aran weight version of the standard Silky Wool (of which we also received new colors) and EL Favorite Wool. Favorite Wool is a real deal - a nice selection of colors and just $5.25 for a 110 yard skein. Knowing Elsebeth, you know that it is outstanding for cable work. Many new sock yarns of various sizes and brands - too numerous to list. Coned mill ends: bamboo tape - 790 yards per pound in sophisticated painted colors good for knitting or weaving and Rayon rickrack that is great for adding drape to your Christmas gift scarves. Yarn for dad (or sophisticated son). Fingering weight cashmere silk in black, steel and navy. Perfect for scarves for anyone, truthfully. It is really wonderful. Big yarn in colorful colors. With support patterns for kids. I'm thinking this might just be a good choice for my Luke - it is machinewashable, pure wool and verrrrry soft.
Come see everything that is new for fall before someone else gets YOUR yarn!
Addi Click Lace Update
If you are patiently waiting for these, you will be happy to know that they should be ready for Christmas gift giving. The production problem was partially due to the brass tips. That has been resolved by making the tips the same polished nickle of the Addi Turbos. Regular lace Addi's will still be brass. Finally, Addi Click bamboos are available for shipment now. If you would like a set, call the shop before Monday and let us know and an order will be place.
Celebrating 10 years: can you help?
Do you have any Heritage memories or anecdotes that you'd like to share with me for an anniversary page I'd like to put on the website this fall? Photos would be great, too! I'd like to build a pictoral history of the first 10 years.
