| Be a Smart Sheep: Our Customer Appreciation Program |
Here's how it works: For every $350 in fiber purchases (yarn, coned yarn, spinning fiber) you will receive a coupon good for 60 days for $25 off your next purchase. The coupon may be redeemed against ANY purchase - equipment, classes, needles, whatever. Further, each time you redeem a coupon you will be entered in an annual drawing to receive a really nice prize including a $100 gift certificate and a handwoven "something" for the home. 2010's prize is a set of four dishtowels woven by Clara. The drawing will be held each year at our Annual New Year's Day Party. Each time you make a purchase your rewards status will print on your receipt. Complete details at HSW. | |

| Tips for Knitters and Weavers | |
Two strands of sock yarn held together are the equivalent of dk weight (#3) yarn (~22 sts = 4"). Many patterns call for this weight. There are especially nice Sirdar baby and children pattern booklets specifying dk. Added bonus: sock yarn is made to take wear and it is machine washable. You can get some really original results and the beauty of it is that the yarn does all the work.
Handwoven Magazine recently had a contest showing sock yarn used in weaving. The results are inspiring. Here is a rigid heddle pattern for a scarf I made using sock yarn that was published by Interweave Press last year. Click here for a free rigid heddle scarf pattern.

On the webI'm very excited! Our patterns are now available for download on-line exclusively through Patternfish. Many other publishers and designers are using the service - Lucy Neatby, Classic Elite, Cat Bordhi, to name a few - and it makes it so much easier for folks who don't have an LYS to get patterns. Not all of our patterns are posted yet, but there is a nice selection. The Coloring Book Shawl, our signature pattern, will also be available on Patternfish.
What's up
It has been an extraordinarily busy summer. People who know me say that my life is never dull and I thrive on chaos. Okay, maybe so, but even for me this has been a busy couple months. Columbus, Albuquerque, and Charlevoix in the last six weeks for business. Bois Blanc and Chicago for vacation. Just some of the highlights from summer so far: Mariah graduated from high school, Pete and I went to our 35th class reunion, Mariah got registered for college, Mariah has finally decided to learn to drive and this past weekend we adopted a lab-mutt named Molly. On top of all this we moved to town (just a 10 minute walk from the shop) and I'm even managing to squeeze in a bit of work. Just for fun, I decided to refresh my crochet skills. Here's my first crochet doiley ever (made from Algarve sport weight cotton). Now I'm trying filet crochet, but I'm not liking following the chart at all! Hope your summer has been fun and fruitful! Happy Fibering!
