| Be a Smart Sheep: Our Customer Appreciation Program |
Here's how it works: For every $350 in fiber purchases (yarn, coned yarn, spinning fiber) you will receive a coupon good for 60 days for $25 off your next purchase. The coupon may be redeemed against ANY purchase - equipment, classes, needles, whatever. Further, each time you redeem a coupon you will be entered in an annual drawing to receive a really nice prize including a $100 gift certificate and a handwoven "something" for the home. 2010's prize is a set of four dishtowels woven by Clara. The drawing will be held each year at our Annual New Year's Day Party. Each time you make a purchase your rewards status will print on your receipt. Complete details at HSW. | |

The Smart Sheep Customer Appreciation Program is up and running. You have been enrolled and your reward status will print on every receipt. More details at left below and in the store.
Yarn for Ghana
Thanks for your generous contributions of yarn for the children's weaving program in Ghana. It will arrive at the school in February - if I get pictures, I'll pass them along.
Did you know?
Here are some things you might not know about Heritage:
- We have an extensive library of fiber books and magazines that you are welcome to come in and browse through. If you want to be inspired, have research to do for your Master Knitter certification, or want to see what's in "that" book that everyone on Ravelry is talking about - by all means come and look. Unfortunately, we cannot check books out. Soon the list of books we have will be available on Anobii on-line.
- We also have a leave-one take-one pleasure reading library (appropriately enough it is located in the bathroom!). Fiber folks like similar books - these are prescreened and ready for sharing. Enjoy!
- We collect (and distribute) comfort items including chemo caps year around. Items go to cancer units around the state.
- Feel free to drop off your no-longer wanted yarns and craft items any time - we'll find them a home. We regularly donate to church knitting programs, Lake Orion Senior Center, hospital knitting programs, and schools.
- There is a "new" shelf in the sock room. Visit that when you come and see what's new in the store.

We just got in another batch of mill-end cones for weavers. This time we've got 20/2 organic cotton and 30/2 Bamboo. Both are in a creamy natural color. These yarns ARE fine (as in thin), but boy are they pretty. We got a GREAT deal on this yarn and have passed it on to you. I might just have to snag a cone for myself. Too bad I can't get time in mill-end quantities!
Big Sock Yarn
Just in is a new shipment with several new shades of Jäbro Garn, a worsted weight sock yarn that is machine washable. This yarn is also a nice yarn for knitting for kid's: it is made to take it. Superwash wool combined with nylon for softness and durability, you can't go wrong no matter what you make with it.
Books
A small stack of books and videos came in that are new to us: Introduction to Fair Isle: The Ivy League Vest DVD with Eunny Jang, The Brand New Knitter DVD by Lucy Neatby, Vogue Knitting On the Go! Crocheted Hats book, 400 Knitting Stitches from Potter Craft, Hattitude by Cathy Carron, Natural Nursery Knits by Erika Knight and, one that will lighten your mood, Itty Bitty Toys of which I give you a glimpse of the inside below:

| Buying Yarn off Cones |
|
When you purchase yarn that must be wound off cones, we standardly provide it in a ball made at our winding station. While this can be cost-effective because you can purchase exactly what you need, not everyone likes to work from a ball. The perfect solution to this is to bring your own spool to wind onto. If you don't have spools, you can purchase them at the shop: $1.90 for cardboard and $3.50 for more durable polystyrene. |
| Classes |

Click on the class calendar on the class page on our website and see what is starting and what is already underway or ongoing.
You asked for it, we scheduled it: a one day Learn to Knit in the Fair Isle Tradition class and a Focus on Fair Isle knitting class. The one day class will produce a hat, the lengthier Focus class will produce a sweater or vest. If you'd like to explore a little bit, try the first class. If you want to do in depth color exploration using traditional Fair Isle knitting yarns, then try the Focus class. Fair Isle knitting is traditionally done with two colors and knit in the round. It is also the fashion rage this year. Learn how to do it for yourself and see how much fun it is. It is my favorite style of knitting.
Speaking of Focus classes. Jae's Focus on Fit begins this coming weekend. If you've ever made a sweater that didn't fit or found a pattern that wasn't in your size that you wanted to make, then spend some time with Jae and learn the nuts and bolts of making a pattern your own.

Knit Michigan - How to Help
As in past years, we are putting out a call for help. We do everything we can to maximize the money we can contribute to our selected cancer charities. Your contributions of the following would help that along: cases of soda (all kinds), non-perishable candy, chips and snacks. All can be dropped off at Heritage any time before the event. We thank you in advance for your generosity. All contributions are tax deductible as Knit Michigan is officially a 501c3 non-profit.
Shop Knit Michigan
The deadline has passed for marathoner registration, but you can still spend most of the day with us. Mark it on your calendar: Saturday, February 6 from 10 to 4. Stop in and learn about the fiber arts, shop (shops in the market and super silent and live auctions), plus you can win prizes in the games contest or just for showing up. Bring your chemo caps and other comfort items and get a coupon for a nice discount from participating LYSs around the state. Patterns for comfort items and directions to the event at www.knitmichigan.com.
Happy Fibering!
