| Greetings!
The festival season has started. If you've never been to a fiber festival, this might be a good year to give one a try. Last weekend was Castle Farms in Charlevoix. The weekend before was Midwest in the Chicago area. In two weeks will be Michigan Fiber Fest in Allegan. I'll be teaching there and we'll have a booth there. Northern Michigan follows at the end of September. I'll be teaching there, but no booth. Why go to a festival when you have perfectly good yarn shops in your backyard. For two big reasons: to be inspired by all the colors and samples and to learn about the entire process. Yarn meets sheep (and alpacas and bunnies and llamas . . .) at a festival. You don't get that up close personal aspect of fiber in a store.
Charity Knitting
If you are feeling a hankering to knit, have a tight budget but don't mind knitting for someone else, stop in and ask us for a FREE yarn pack to make a chemo cap for Knit Michigan. We have a supply of very nice yarn that was donated for this purpose. We have packaged it with a Knit Michigan tag so you can return it ready for us to be sent on to a Michigan cancer unit. Knitting is relaxing. Giving makes you feel good. |

I wish we had the technology available so that you could reach into the picture and feel how wonderful our newest sock yarn feels! This On-Line family of yarns is made of 50% wool and 25% each bamboo and nylon. It is soooo soft, yet I believe that it will wear very nicely. Machine washable, each skein makes an average women's pair of socks. Have bigger feet than that? Use one of of our solid colors to work the toes and heels!

And, something fun to decorate your felted things: premade multi-colored 100% wool balls. Let your imagination run wild! Decorate them with beads, cut them in half for the center of a flower. String them together and make a necklace or a handle for a felted bag. Possibilities abound! Have fun!

Also in but not pictured: two Knit One Crochet Too yarns: Douceur et Soie (silk and kid mohair) and Sox Appeal (stretchy wool sock yarn). |

This week's gallery brings two projects that have long-languished in their respective owners knitting bags!
The first is a lap blanket made by Jill from yarn from the sale bin. She apologized for its plain-ness. We thought it was lovely.

Becca started these socks three years ago as we drove to a weaving conference. I've seen them periodically since, but on this trip to the Castle the first sock finally met it's mate. Now Becca is really "geeked" about socks. She delved into my mom's yarn stash and borrowed a couple skeins so she could cast on for her second pair, which she did on the ride back to Lake Orion. I double it will take her three years to finish her second pair.

As always, click on the images for a closer view. The lace needs to be seen larger to be appreciated. |

The triangle shape is perhaps the oldest and most aesthetically versatile of all shawl motifs. In this class, Galina will present three distinct design techniques to construct a triangular-shaped shawl . . . you select the approach that best fits your knitting style. Be Prepared
A couple weeks ago we had a class in the shop to learn how to administer CPR and help someone who is choking. It was a good day. My goal is to have some one in the shop at all times with these skills. You never know when you'll need them. Are you trained?
Happy Fibering!
