| Greetings!
Summer is upon us (finally!). Vacations are here. The pace for most of us is a little slower, more relaxed. Flowers are in, most of the yard work is "caught up." It's a good time of year in Michigan. It's also a good time of year to think about holiday knitting. Now? Absolutely. Most of what we make for gift giving is small -- hats, mittens, slippers, scarves -- which are perfect for knitting during the dog days of summer. Stop in and be inspired by some of our samples from the One Skein books and check out this week's coupon.
Charity Knitting
If you are feeling a hankering to knit, have a tight budget but don't mind knitting for someone else, stop in and ask us for a FREE yarn pack to make a chemo cap for Knit Michigan. We have a supply of very nice yarn that was donated for this purpose. We have packaged it with a Knit Michigan tag so you can return it ready for us to send on to a Michigan cancer unit. Knitting is relaxing. Giving makes you feel good. |

One of our new fall yarns came in this week. No samples yet, but mom is knitting a baby sweater set as I write. Mochi Plus is a machine washable equivalent to Noro Kureyon or Silk Garden - but is is soft enough for baby.
Mochi Plus: 80% Superwash Merino Wool/20% Nylon 95 yds/50 gr ball. 16 long-striping colors, 4 - 4.5 sts/inch on size 9 - 10 needles - 95 yds/50 gr. A new sample from one of our Michigan knitwear designers is finished and on display. Knitting at Knoon's Ted: The cutest baby bear on the block (with or without ears)! A raglan hoody and leggings knit in Comfort. In three sizes: S (6-9 mos.), M (9-12 mos.), and L (12-18 mos.)

We've got a plethora of pretty projects this week. What's cool is that they aren't just knit. Here to inspire you:

Cherie is modeling her Seascape shawl (Fibertrends) knit in Bloomfield (50/50 Merino/Silk) in the Up North colorway.

Debbie Models her Peacock Shawl (Some Knitting Required) knit in Bloomfield.

Debbie was prolific. This is our Aspen shawl pattern, also knit in Bloomfield (do you see a pattern here?). She did this as a result of a class I taught over Christmas and will be teaching at Michigan Fiber Fest next month.

And Sonya proudly shows off her tablet weaving. Tablet weaving is done using a set of punched cards. She uses her inkle loom to tension it. This is a leash for her dog. Sonya says this is the year of "small" weaving. I've enjoyed seeing her learn -- she's taught herself from books.

Nancie went on vacation and took one of our new sock dyeing kits with her. The kit only comes with one skein of yarn, but it has enough dye to dye this much yarn in all these colors! Nancie said to tell you, "The kit is a very simple fun way to introduce one's self to dyeing and might even be a good bonding experience for the entire family on a rainy day when you are all Monopolied out .... "

This Hennie modeling her sweater by another Michigan knitwear designer, Kim Smith of Knitting Matters. The yarn is Ella Rae Silkience and the pattern is called Kiyo.

Donna models her Luminaria shawl from knitty.com. If you guessed that it was made from our Bloomfield . . . you are right!
As always, click on the images for a closer view. The lace needs to be seen larger to be appreciated. |

In this class, Galina will present three distinct design techniques to construct a triangular-shaped shawl . . . you select the approach that best fits your knitting style.
