| Greetings!
Hard to believe, but it is true. Summer officially comes this weekend. What does that mean for fiber folks? Time to start planning for December gift-giving! Check out the classes in July - maybe we can help in that department. |
| The Summer Yarn Show |
|
|

Every June the yarn business puts on a show . . . the WINTER show in the summer. Or is it the summer show with winter yarns? Well, whatever, it is a heck of a show!
There are literally hundreds of booths with all our favorite yarns, needlepoint canvasses, notions, designers, publishers and other complementary vendors. Jae and I enjoyed working our booth (selling our patterns, Little Knitting Book and the Knitting Boot Camp curriculum) but, truthfully, I didn't get to get out to see much. Sharlene and Suzanne came to the show and made the rounds and discovered a few yarns that I'll be looking into. I did, however, end up making a few purchases. One of my favorites is a little one:

Nancy's Knit Knacks Perfect Notions Case. It's small - the size of a thick cell phone but exactly right for tucking in your to-go knitting bag. Or having one for each project bag. Another Nancy's thing that everyone will love is our new winding station. No more hand winding. A motor does the work and if you want to measure yarn (to divide a ball for socks or measuring off a cone), it will go to the preset length and stop. Now, that's pretty darn exciting! I can barely wait until ours is delivered.
One of our booth neighbors was Green Mountain Spinnery. Jae and I had a good time visiting with them. Like Jae said, "They'd fit right in at Heritage - they are our kind of people." They also have great yarns and patterns and they have a new book coming out. I was also thrilled to see that they had some made in Vermont yarn for dyeing. What a great combination: doing business with cool folks and getting a new yarn for dyeing that is made in the US.
Oh yes, and I ordered more sock yarn. No surprise there!
One yarn that both Jae and I fell in love with is Louet's Mooi (pronounced "moy" to rhyme with boy). It is a blend of bison, bamboo and cashmere. Talk about heaven! I suspect some will find its way to our shelves come fall. More on it here. |

This is a Knitting Boot Camp success story. Pat came in to show off her latest project - this pink baby sweater. What's cool is that it was a plain sweater, no lace in the original pattern. She thought it needed to be spiffed up a bit, so she got out her calculator, swatched a bit and ended up with this version of feather and fan lace. The original didn't have a collar. She wondered if she could add one and Marge (in Drop in Knitting) encouraged her to go for it. Personally, I think Pat did a great job! It is a sweet little sweater.

Class Spotlight:
UFO Summer Camp. Sunday, 7/5. This is your opportunity to come play inside a yarn shop for a day. It will be kind of like a lock in like the kids do. The shop is closed except for Summer Campers. Bring your UFOs and get some work done. Watch a movie, browse the books, take a walk, enjoy the company. How perfect is that? Details on the website.
