| Greetings!
Downtown Lake Orion is so pretty this time of year. The trees lining the streets are in full bloom. The crud from winter has disappeared and everything seems to sparkle. It is a glorious reminder of the splendour of Michigan's seasons.
Many fiber folks are also gardeners. This time of year can be hard on your hands. Make sure you treat them well so you can enjoy relaxing with yarn when the sun goes down. Here are a few tips I've learned from you over the years:
- If your hands are catching on the fiber (especially silk), rub them with a slice of lemon, then let the residue dry.
- Give yourself a manicure while gardening. Apply lotion liberally, slide on thin rubber gloves, then your regular gardeing gloves and go to work. Your hands will feel really soft and smooth when you take off the gloves.
- Visit the Internet. Search on "carpal tunnel exercises" and find a set that make sense to you. Do them before and after weeding. Gardening can be hearder on your hands than knitting, crocheting, spinning or weaving.
- Use the right tool for the job to ease body stress and save energy for later. Think ergonomics.
- Enlist a friend/child/neighbor to help you. Many hands make work light (and leave you with more energy for fibering later).
Mother's Day Invitation
Not all of us have children or have children in the area. So, stop by this Sunday anytime between 12 to 4, enjoy a cup of tea, some sweet and some healthy snacks and good, nurturing company while knitting or spinning or whatever. You can never feel lonely at Heritage! Don't miss the coupon below good only on Mother's Day. |

Lots of show and tell this week!
Tim crocheted this stole for an Episcopal priest friend. It is backed in vintage silk fabric that his father brought from China. his wife machine embroidered the cross. Tim used our 5/2 mercerized cotton (on a cone) for the project.
Keith knit his sweater from DK weight Jamieson's Shetland wool using a pattern from one of the Simply Shetland books. As with many of you, Keith used the pattern as a starting point and lengthened and changed using the pattern as his base. We no longer stock this yarn, but do have plenty of other DK weight wools that would do the trick.
Shar coached Sherry through this purse (which is evening bag size) at Thursday afternoon Drop In Knitting. Made with #6 sized beads, it is a quick knit and also makes a good gift.

Desi, one of the young ladies that works on Sunday, has been making these knotted bracelets for all of us. This batch is for her friends. We are trying to convince her that she should make them to sell - they are that pretty! We are also hoping she can do a class to teach us all how to make them. The technique could also be used to make trim for garments or accessories or even shoe laces.

Class spotlight:
Drum Carder Play Day, Sunday, June 28 is going to be a fun day in the country with the goats, sheep and hourses just outside our classroom door. Held at Sheepy Hollow (outside Armada), Jen will cater lunch that is sure to include something made with home-made goats cheese and perhaps something lavendery. Class doesn't start until 10, so you have time before class to visit the popular Armade flea market that opens at 6 a.m. Don't have a drum carder? We'll provide a list of "exercises" you can do, but this is not a "how to" card class. Bring your wheel, carders and any fiber you like (remember: drum carding can rejuvenate old roving). We'll also have fiber available for purchase.

Flower Fair . . .
Downtown Lake Orion hosts its annual Flower Fair next weekend, May 16 & 17. This is a really lovely event with vendors selling all kinds of things for the home and garden. We'll do a crochet flower demo as part of the activities at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
