Greetings!

ShawlI thought now would be a good time to give you a "heads up" and remind you that our annual Fiber Art Show (with fabulous prizes) is scheduled for the end of September. Now is the time to start thinking about what you should enter. Why enter? It's fun. There truly are super great prizes and it is nice to see what everyone is working on. We leave the show up for a week, during which time you can come and be inspired and vote for your favorite projects. All proceeds benefit breast cancer research at the U-M. The shawl at right, modeled by Tress, will be awarded to the grand prize winner of the Art Show. Woven by Mary Rios, it is made from a blend of handspun and commercial yarn and is generously sized and quite luxurious - it will be on display in the shop to inspire you!
 In the Shop

Heritage Sheep LogoThis is just one of the sweaters (at left)from the Simply Shetland rotating trunk show that is in the shop now. It is a classic waiting to be knit!

Heritage Sheep LogoThis sample (at right) just came in from the yarn company. It is made from our new Debbie Bliss Eco Cotton and really is quite lovely. Since the yarn is a worsted weight (#4), this is a fairly fast knit. You've got plenty of time to knit it up before summer. If you haven't been in to see this yarn yet, it takes advantage of all cotton has to offer: it is soft to the touch, machine washable, and comes in lovely, saturated colors. View all the colors here.
Friends of Heritage Gallery
HorseblanketToday Candy came in and showed off her new saddle blanket. It is woven on our linen warp and she used handspun from her flock for the natural colors. The weave structure is called Krokbragd. Candy is the shepherd that provides much of the wool that we wash and dye and have available in the shop in the form of roving.

EZ Sweater  EZ Surprise

Ooops! Last week I told you that Nancie knit these sweaters, when, in fact, Reneé did. My apologies, Reneé!

Classes
Our class scheduling guru, Jamisen, has been busy working on revamping the functionality of the classes portion of our website. You can now click on the class calendar and see not only classes that are starting, but also classes that are ongoing.  We're still fine tuning, you'll see refinements, but we are meeting some of our website upgrade goals!

Class spotlight:
 FREE Spinning Class
Schacht Spindle Company is celebrating its 40th year in business this year and is hosting an "I made it on my Schacht Contest." In conjunction with that, I promised you that we'd have some FREE classes to help you get ready for the contest. Our first will be on Saturday, April 4 from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. Annie will lead a "Spinning Tune Up" class. This will be totally hands-on. She'll be watching your hands and your wheel and giving you pointers for improving your skills. While having a Schacht wheel isn't mandatory, you might like to try one of ours while you are here! Please RSVP so we know how many to expect.

Find the good in the day

Our economy has many people feeling a little down, frustrated, and sometimes even frightened of what tomorrow will bring. I think the hardest part is feeling a "lack of control." I'd like to challenge you to look -- really look -- at the things that are getting you down and find the positive. Work on finding the good and you will feel better. Get out and take a walk. Knit a charity project that gets you thinking of others. Be kind to a neighbor. Remember that bumper sticker from the 90's "Practice Random Acts of Kindness"? Try it and you'll feel better.

Happy Fibering!
