| Greetings!
One of the things I think we do best around here at Heritage is inspire people. Inspire you in your project selections certainly, but more importantly inspire you to become better at your craft. Last night one of my classes met, Spinning the Breeds. It has been so gratifying for me to see the samples everyone makes and to see how the spinning skills have improved over the course of the class. The Knitting Boot Camp classes that began in the fall are getting close to winding down. Likewise, I can see improvement in tension and in comprehension. It is what keeps me going as a teacher: to watch students love their craft more, be more at ease with it, and to share their accomplishments proudly while smiling widely! |

Spring yarns are coming in |
|
|
Lots of new yarns came in this week:
Noro Chirimen. This yarn has the colors of Noro in a summery blend that is heavy in cotton, silk and wool in a DK weight. The hat uses one skein and is from Luxury One Skein books.

Debbie Bliss Eco Cotton from the Fairtrade Collection. This is our first venture into the Debbie Bliss line in more than five years. This yarn feels great and knits up fairly fast. It's also earth friendly. A perfect combination. Check out the pattern book that includes great ideas for using this yarn. The hat is an Ann Norling pattern - Kids' Cap IV.
Berroco Seduce. I've had my eye on this yarn for a while. We are knitting up a sample, a simple triangle shawl on size 9 needles. It is beautiful. I ordered neutral colors thinking that they would go with most summer outfits. This is a slightly slinky yarn that has a great hand.
New colors of Sublime Organic Cotton. Another really fine cotton for summer wear. Softer colors than the Debbie Bliss, but every bit as "blissful."
And, some mill-end flake yarn for the weavers (obviously not checked in, yet!). Great prices. Both in 100% cotton and a 50/50 cotton/linen blend. Will work well with 8/2. Add for interest or use alone for towels with extra texture.

Just a couple photos this week. First comes Rob, son of Jeanne. He's modeling the felted mittens made by his mom from Shepherd's Wool using our Felted Mittens pattern (slightly modified - he needed longer thumbs and cuffs!).
And, this is Maureen showing off her very first rigid heddle piece. Under Becca's able tutelage she threaded using a worsted weight wool in a Log Cabin pattern. The piece of fabric will be heavily fulled (felted) and sewn into a bag.

FREE Spinning Class
Schacht Spindle Company is celebrating its 40th year in business this year and is hosting an "I made it on my Schacht Contest." In conjunction with that, I promised you that we'd have some FREE classes to help you get ready for the contest. Our first will be on Saturday, April 4 from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. Annie will lead a "Spinning Tune Up" class. This will be totally hands-on. She'll be watching your hands and your wheel and giving you pointers for improving your skills. While having a Schacht wheel isn't mandatory (you can try ours),

In Memory
It is with sorrow I tell you of the passing of a customer, friend, student and fellow Knit Michigan committee member. Lyn Sippola has been hanging around Heritage for several years. She was an ardent knitter, wife-mom-grandmom, embroiderer, gardener, dog mom, guild member, and just all around nice lady. Her memorial service will be tomorrow night in Farmington Hills. She will be missed.
Sincerely,
Joan Sheridan
