Greetings!

Most of us enjoy helping others. Knit Michigan provides a perfect opportunity for doing that without going far from home or breaking the pocket book. Very close to 100% of the funds we raise via Knit Michigan go to support cancer patients and their families. Visit www.knitmichigan.com to learn about the charities that benefit from our work. In the meantime, here are several ways you can help now:
  • Sign up to be a marathoner. Spaces are available, but several classes are near capacity.
  • Donate a case of soda, pound of coffee or box of snacks (M&Ms, pretzels - something you enjoy and would like to see at our snack bar!) - please drop off at Heritage before Feb 4.
  • Clean your fiber room: donate projects that you know you'll never get around to doing to our silent auction.
  • Make a chemo cap or other comfort item (patterns on the website).
Can't be a marathoner? Plan to spend the day with us.

Simply Shetland Trunk Show is Back!
For the past two years we've been able to take part in the Simply Shetland traveling trunk show. I really enjoy this trunk show because we get just 2 or 3 garments at a time and you can appreciate them better than when 20 garments come in. Here's a shot of the current ones. These are here for two more weeks and shortly thereafter the next batch arrive.

New Weaving Opportunities
Monday night open weaving is off and running. The first project came off the loom this week and everyone really seems to be enjoying the loom time. There are so many reasons to come and weave with us: to learn to weave, try an 8-shaft project, try a new weave structure or something else new, make new weaving friends, or to just get out of the house and hang out with Sammie. The cost per week is just $20. Join us: Monday evening from 6 to 9. Reservation required.

Once a month rigid heddle weaving. This is an opportunity to warp your loom, plan a project, try a new technique or freshen your skills. Your guide for this adventure is Becca. You must have your own rigid heddle to participate. Cost per session is $20 and it happens on the first Tuesday of each month from 6 to 9. Reservation required.
Classes

We've got a lot of interesting classes coming up - some project related, others technique focused. An overview:
  • Knitting Boot Camp with Jae - this is a compressed version of the class. You will meet every other week instead of once a month. Start in January and end in May. KBC is a great way to kick start your knitting skills. We've had folks that have been knitting for more than 40 years take the class and learn new things. There is a lot of homework and you must be beyond a beginner knitter to take this class.
  • We have two different focus classes beginning in January: Focus on Shetland Lace and Focus on Fit. The Fit class teaches you to modify patterns to fit YOU. The Lace class covers history, stitches, and shawl design. Both are for intermediate level knitters.
  • Christa Kindt-Newhouse comes at the end of the month for several different classes based on patterns of her own design, including: her very popular Swiss Scarf, a double brioche scarf, cobweb scarf, knitted tassel (think curtain tie-back or bag adornment) and a double weave intensive.
Here's a list of all the classes starting this month and into February (the date is the first date of the class):

1/15 Reversible Cabled Scarf
1/16 Toe Options 1
1/17 Undulating Waves Scarf
1/17 Learn to Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom (FULL)
1/19 Learn to Knit

Night Notes. One of our customers is an oboeist with the Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings. Sally is performing in one of their Nightnotes "knitting" concerts "Oboe Trio: with Donald Baker, Sally Pituch and Stephanie Shapiro," and it will take place on Friday, January 30 at 8:30 pm at Hagopian World of Rugs. They are offering a discount of $5 off per ticket to knitters. Tickets are normally $20 in advance and $25 at the door, so knitters pay $15 in advance and $20 at the door. And as always, knitters can feel free to bring their projects with them!
