Greetings!
It has been a busy week. I attended meetings for two (really three) upcoming events: Knit Michigan Presents, the 5th Annual Shop Hop, and Knit Michigan 2009. Phew. I am meeting-ed out! But, I've got lots of news for you:
Knit Michigan Presents . . .
An Evening with Shay Pendray at Michigan Design Center
Mark your calendars now for Tuesday evening, October 28. Get the details at www.knitmichigan.com. Do come. Whether you are interested in being a marathoner or just attending Knit Michigan in February or just want to meet fellow knitters - this is an event you will want to be part of.
5th Annual Shop Hop
The date is set: Saturday, November 15 (opening day of deer season for those of you left behind). In addition to Heritage, the participating shops are: Basketful of Yarn in Clarkston, " . . . have you any Wool?" in Berkley, the Knitting Room in Birmingham and Skeins on Main in Rochester. Special event hours are 9 to 5. Details on our website.
 Knit Michigan 2009
The date is Saturday, February 7. Your first opportunity to register is at Knit Michigan Presents. Classes will be posted to the website in October. New chemo cap patterns, including these, have already been posted at www.knitmichigan.com. |
| Great opportunity to learn two-color knitting |

Beth Brown-Reinsell has been on the knitting circuit teaching classes for about 20 years. What does that mean to you? She's a really good teacher! On top of that, Beth is one terrific person. I know you'll enjoy time spent with her.
Saturday, October 11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Maine Mittens. $85
Sunday, October 12, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Norwegian Mittens. $85
A complete description, supply list and homework can be found on our website.
Hope you can join us - I'm planning on taking the Sunday class myself. I'd be in Saturday's class, too, if I wasn't already teaching. See you there? |
| Did you say YARN? |
|
|
When I ordered yarn in June, September seemed so far away. Well, it is definitely here now as all those shelves we had cleared for fall yarn are filling up fast. Really fast. This week I'll tell you about two new yarns. The first is from a designer that is very popular with many of you: Elsebeth Lavold. We've brought in Bambool. Yes, you guessed - it is a combination of bamboo and wool. It has the shine of bamboo and the loft of wool - a very nice combination. See for yourself:
Bambool knits up on US size 6 (4.5mm) needles at 20 sts in 4 inches. 92 yards per skein. It is 80% bamboo/20% wool. The great part of this yarn is that it is the same gauge as many of her other yarns so patterns you already have can be knit with this.
Noro has done it again with Yuzen. It is a DK weight yarn that feels pretty good to knit with. It is 55% wool, 35% silk and 10% kid mohair. The colors are vibrant and it is fun to knit with. I designed this fingerless glove to show off the yarn. The ball on the left is what is left after making one glove - plenty enough left to get a pair out of one skein. 120 yards per hank, knits up on US size 6 needles at 22 sts in 4 inches. We have all colors in stock. The glove pattern should be ready in a couple weeks |

Charity Knitting - Fleece blankets
You are invited join us Sunday, September 21, from 1 to 4, to make a comfort blanket for a cancer patient. We'll have get-started kits available (100% of the price of these kits will be donated to Knit Michigan) or bring your own supplies: 3/4 to 1 yard of fleece fabric, one skein matching yarn (Berroco Comfort is perfect), Size G crochet hook, awl, scissors, and tapestry needle. You need not know how to crochet - volunteers will be on hand to teach you!
4th Annual Heritage Fiber Art Show
With a little help from my friends . . . I moved the piles of prize boxes out of my office and Suzanne and Dea arranged them into a pleasing exhibit of possibilities. The generosity of our vendors astounds me. Now, it is up to you to make their contributions worth it: do enter our art show and support a great cause. You can't win if you don't enter! 100% of the funds raised via the art show are donated to breast cancer research at the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center. Enter and win the grand prize: a hand spun, painted and woven shawl. Visit our website to learn more about the Fiber Art Show - YOU make it special. Join us, won't you?
Heritage Spinning & Weaving Open House. Saturday afternoon, September 27 from 1 to 4. Enjoy donuts and cider, see the art show for the first time, watch some of our artisan customers at work and buy their products (So far: Marie Lise's bags, Mary's weaving, and Sybil's silversmithing and Dorothy will be doing a tatting demo). It is a very pleasant afternoon.
Happy Fibering,
Joan Sheridan
