September 12, 2008

Greetings!

Knitterpalooza 2008 Yarn Crawl is tomorrow! Click here to print out your passport. This is a grass roots event organized by Ravelry members and fellow knitters and it sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Basically, it is a metro-Detroit shop hop that ends the day with a Knit-In in Royal Oak. It includes prizes and sales and gifts. How can you not participate? Check the link for complete information. Heritage will open an hour early, at 9 a.m., for this special event.

You are invited
Join us Sunday, September 21, from 1 to 4, to make a comfort blanket for a cancer patient. We'll have get-started kits available (100% of the price of these kits will be donated to Knit Michigan) or bring your own supplies: 3/4 to 1 yard of fleece fabric, one skein matching yarn (Berroco Comfort is perfect), Size G crochet hook, awl, scissors, and tapestry needle. You need not know how to crochet - volunteers will be on hand to teach you!

Boxes and boxes of yarn

KashmirHeritage Sheep Logo

It has been a week of big boxes. New yarns, restocks and new colors of old yarns - now we're wondering where to put it all! Here's a sampling of three of the new yarns that came in.

Louisa Harding Kashmir
This yarn has been a staff favorite for a couple years - it is machine washable and it really feels nice. In a garment it has remarkable drape. The basket on the left above is a mixture of the DK and Aran weight restocks and new colors. The basket on the right is the latest addition to the line: the baby weight.

Fiber content: 55% Merino Wool, 10% Cashmere, 35% Microfiber.
Kashmir Baby:143 yards, 6 sts/inch US size 5  (tho I really think this is better suited to size 3 or 4 needles - we'll be working up a swatch)
Kashmir DK: 116 yards, 5.5 sts/inch on US size 6
Kashmir Aran: 83 yards, 4.5 sts/inch on US size 8

Linie Supersocke Silk
This is a new yarn - but I recommend it for socks that won't get hard wear as it has a fairly high merino content. It is also great for baby knitting because it is machine washable and for shawl knitting because it is very cuddly. I could wrap myself up in this yarn and be very happy!

Fiber content: 55% Merino Wool, 20% Silk, 25% Nylon
Supersocke Silk: 220 yards, 6 sts/inch on US size 2-3.

Music for Knitters

Detroit Chamber Winds kicks off their 2008-2009 Nightnotes concert series with a flute recital at Hagopians in Birmingham on Sept 19th at 8:00 pm. One of the people behind this wonderful evening is a customer and fellow knitter. Sally got permission to offer knitters a discount. Call in advance to 248 559-2095 and tell them you are a knitter and get a $5 discount on the tickets. Then, take your "mindless" knitting and enjoy the concert. Click here for more information.
