SPECIAL SUNDAY WINE PROGRAM

Exploring Umbria: September 2, 5:45 p.m.

This Sunday brings several exciting opportunities not to be missed. First, Labor Day Sunday brings the last Sunday for a while that you can shop at Erick's. After that, we will not be open on Sunday again until the Sunday of Wooly Worm weekend, so don't miss this opportunity to come and shop at Erick's on Sunday! More fun, less crowds, better customer service, free wine tasting!

Then, Sunday afternoon at 5:45 we will offer our last wine program of the season - wines from Umbria. In a rush from Rome to Florence, Umbria often gets passed by as an afterthought, but Erick's will finally give the area its due! From the most traditional and autochthonous varieties to the most modernist interpretations of international grapes, we will explore seldom-traveled oenological paths through some of Italy's most exciting highly rated wines.   Imagine yourself sipping wines at a pizzeria in the shadows of the beautiful black-and-white stone duomo in Orvieto, in a trattoria on the way to Assisi or in a dusty cavern in Civitá (p.s. check out http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/italy/civitabd.htm), as we transport you to the ancient stomping grounds of the Etruscans and see how far their winemaking has come.

The cost to attend this program is $25 per person (with 10% credit for previous 2012 sessions attended), including wines, hors d'oeuvres and cheese samples. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Wines poured will be available for purchase at discount at this program. Only 5 spaces remain for this program, so please call the store at 828.898.9424, reply to rlyar@aol.com or sign up at the store as soon as possible if you would like to attend this program.

SMALL ESTATE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OILS

NOW AVAILABLE FOR TASTING

You know about L'Arrigo extra virgin olive oil, which we have been direct-importing from Italy since 2005 and where we have personally visited and are well-acquainted with the husband and wife who carefully tend the orchard and press the oil. We have also researched and identified several additional small estate oils that we can vouch for and that we have tasted and found to be fresh and genuine extra virgin olive oils. These oils, including oils from Spain, Greece and the states of California and, yes, Georgia(!), are now available at Erick's and available for you to taste at our new olive oil tasting table in front of the cheese counter.

WINE PROGRAMS TO GO

As our customers know, we offer many wine tastings and informational programs in our Tasting Room next door. We are also available and delighted to offer at-home wine programs for you and your friends. You and your friends set the agenda and we'll provide an informative and entertaining program around the wines or regions of your choice.

WHISPERKOOL WINE CELLAR COOLING UNIT FOR SALE

PROCEEDS TO BENEFIT THE CROSSNORE SCHOOL

Bill Forness, one of our customers, has replaced his wall-mounted wine cellar cooling unit with an under-house model and has offered to sell his old unit, a WhisperKool XLT 3000, designed to chill a wine cellar of up to 650 cubic feet, with all proceeds to be donated to The Crossnore School. He reports that this unit had an original cost of approximately $1,700 when it was purchased in October 2007 and that it is in good operating condition.   We have it at the store if anyone would like to inspect it. He will sell it to the highest bidder over $250, and we are accepting bids on his behalf. If you would like this unit (and would like to enable a generous donation to The Crossnore School), please advise us by replying to this email or in person at the store. (No phone bids can be accepted.)
