Biltmore Wines
Every year our biggest selling wines from a North Carolina producer are those of Biltmore. In fact, Biltmore is the country's most visited wine estate, with more than one million visitors annually stopping by to sample their fine wines. We're doing you a favor Saturday by bringing in Ginny Rudder from Biltmore to pour its wines at Erick's so you won't have to drive to Asheville. Here's what she'll be tasting:
2010 Biltmore Reserve Riesling ($15.99).
2009 Biltmore Reserve Chardonnay ($15.99).
NV Biltmore Sangiovese ($16.99).
2008 Biltmore Cabernet Sauvignon ($15.99).
2006 Biltmore Cabernet Sauvignon "Antler Hill" ($44.99). Proceeds from the $5 tasting fee will be donated to Avery County Humane Society.
Riedel Challenge
Thursday, August 4, 6:30 - 7:30
The Riedel family has been about making the world's best glassware for three centuries, and Georg continues that tradition today with the best and most innovative wine glasses you can buy anywhere. Their bold claim is that Chardonnay tastes different, and better, in their special Chardonnay glasses; that Riesling tastes different, and better, in their special Riesling glasses; that Syrah tastes different, and better, in their special Syrah glasses; and on and on. You've heard this claim and thought it was preposterous, right? Come see, smell and taste for yourself whether you or Georg have the last laugh.
Wines from the Small Vineyards of Italy
Sunday, August 7, 5:30-6:30
Leave behind your pre-conceived notion that the "big" name Italian wine producers make the best Italian wines. In this program, we'll submit the proposition that small, family-owned and run properties whose scale of operation allows for hands-on, organic approaches to grape growing and wine making can knock the white and red sox off the wines of the "name brands". We'll taste 7 special, artisanal wines and introduce you to the artists who created them.
The tuition is $25 per person. The classes will be seated presentations in our Tasting Room next door and will include generous tastings of the subject wines, cheeses and hors d'oeuvres and written materials. Reservations: (828) 898-9424.
