SUMMER IN THE HIGH COUNTRY
(CAME EARLY)
Someone forgot to tell the weathermaker it's not yet summer in Banner Elk, because Ray's Weather has had to trot out the "h" word earlier than usual. For example, the high temperature on Beech Mountain hit a record yesterday - 77 degrees! (Wish I had air conditioning.) But we see the entire southeast is in the weather furnace. Time to come to the High Country for temperature relief.
With that (and the economy) in mind, we're rolling out some "hot" wines this Saturday at Ericks that are designed to cool the palate while barely bruising your wallet. We welcome Phil Noble from Country Vintner, who will be behind the bar pouring these wines:
2009 Springfield Estate Sauvignon Blanc "Lite from Stone" (South Africa, $19.99).
Annalisa Moscato Spumante (Italy, 2-for-$20.00).
2009 River View Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon "Front Porch" (California, 2-for-$15.00).
2007 Four Vines Old Vine Zinfandel (California, 12.99).

PAID TASTE
Our featured wine will be 2006 Four Vines Petite Sirah "The Heretic" (California, $44.99), which we'll be pouring for a $5 taste. Wine Spectator 89 points: "Notes of toast, baking spices and tobacco give this wine some personality, with thick, velvety tannins and gobs of ripe black cherry and raspberry flavors that persist on the finish. " Proceeds from the tasting fee, the will be donated for Joplin, MO relief. Do your part!!! |

SPECIAL DE LOACH TASTING
6:30 p.m. June 23
We're kicking off our post-summer solstice special events calendar with a special presentation in our Tasting Room of the premium Russian River Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines from DeLoach Vineyards. Jim Robertson, Regional Manager of Boisset Family Estates (which owns DeLoach) will join us to discuss and pour the wines. Hot hors d'oeuvres and cheeses will be served. Seating is limited, and a $25 fee will be required to reserve a place at the table for you. You may make your reservations by calling us at 828.898.9424 or signing up next time you're in the shop.

FRIDAY BEER TASTING
Join us on the patio late Friday afternoon (4 to 7 PM) to taste some fabulous craft beers. This week's complimentary pours will be Ayinger Oktober Fest-Marzen (Bavaria, $6.95) and "Decadent" (Durango, $6.95).

Of course you can buy bottles to take with you, but we're now offering you a glass of your favorite to enjoy on the patio everyday. We feature one white wine and one red wine daily prices vary from $6 to $8. Add a cheese and enjoy the afternoon with us!

RESTAURANT CORKAGE FEES
We've updated our list of local restaurant corkage fees if you're thinking about taking your own bottle of wine out to dinner. If you like to b.y.o., check with us and we'll let you know who permits this. Remember, out of courtesy to the restaurant, the bottle should be a special one, preferably an older vintage or a prized bottle that the restaurant doesn't have on its wine list. And always tip a little more generously because the server "loses" the sale of the wine you bring.
