JUDGE TO PREVIEW WINES AT ERICK'S
What do you get when an Australian judge, with tongue planted firmly in his cheek, starts making spectacular small lot wines? You get wines with names like "The Verdict", "Guilty" Innocent" and "Executioner."
For a "fine" of $15 per person, the Judge, George Shinas, will make a public presentation of the "evidence" Thursday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m., at Erick's Cheese and Wine at Grandfather Center at the corner of N.C. 184 and N.C. 105. You, the jury, will decide if these are the best wines you have ever tasted in the low $20's per bottle.
The "Innocent" is a single-vineyard un-oaked Viognier. The "Guilty" is a powerful barrel-aged Shiraz, the "Verdict" is Cabernet Sauvignon and The "Executioner" is a blend. Due to the very limited production, only a few lucky souls will ever get to taste these wines.
The Judge's wines (Shinas Wines) are made in the vineyard (which dates back to 1898), not in the wine cellar. He cuts irrigation and reduces yields to enhance grape quality, then lets the fruit hang until fully ripe, allowing intense flavors develop, and performs a rigorous selection of only the best quality bunches to vinify. His wines are barrel-aged for three years and bottled without filtration or fining.
A total of five wines will be presented with complementary hors d'oeuvres.
If you would like to attend please contact Erick's at 828-898-9424 to reserve your place.
