GREAT NEW WINE DEALS We're pleased to present some of our recent outstanding wines: 2009 Domaine Les Grands Bois Côtes du Rhône Viognier (Rhône, $16.99). Wine Advocate 90 points: From Robert Parker: "the 2009 Viognier Cotes du Rhone may be the finest value in Viognier that I have ever tasted. Made from tiny yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare, this wine's extraordinary minerality was an unexpected surprise as I was expecting a tutti-fruity, plump white. Instead, I got a classic Viognier exhibiting lots of floral, apricot, and peach notes intermixed with a crushed rock-like character as well as good acidity. This tank-fermented and aged beauty should be consumed over the next year." 2009 Domaine Les Grands Bois CIotes du Rhône "Les Trois Soeurs" (Rhône, $15.99). Wine Advocate 90 pts:The 2009 Cotes du Rhone Les Trois Soeurs (a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Carignan from 30- to 60-year-old vines) offers a delicious mouthful of wine for a song. Its dense plum color is accompanied by notes of white chocolate, crushed berry fruit, earth, and licorice. Broad, savory, and silky textured, this delicious, enormously satisfying 2009 should drink well for 2-3 years." 2009 Grandes Beso de Vino Seleccione (Aragon, $11.99). Wine Advocate 90 pts: "The 2009 Beso de Vino Seleccion is a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Garnacha aged for 3 months in French oak. Black cherry and blueberry aromas lead to a dense, plush, savory wine which finishes with no hard edges. It is shockingly good for the money." 2009 Grandes Beso de Vino Garnacha VV Aragon, $11.99). Wine Advocate 89 pts: "It displays super fragrant aromas of black cherry, red licorice, and lavender leading to a dense, layered wine that over-delivers big-time for its humble price. Enjoy it over the next 3 years." 2006 Turley Zinfandel, Pesoni Vineyard (Paso Robles, $49.99). Tanzer 93 pts: "Bright red-ruby. Expansive aromas of cherry, briary raspberry and pepper. Creamy in texture but at the same time bright and juicy, with lovely peppery, floral lift to the red fruit flavors. Finishes spicy, smooth and long, with pliant tannins." Also Wine Advocate 91-94 pts: "the 2006 Zinfandel Pesenti is a beauty. The limestone seems to give Zinfandels in that area acidity, vibrancy, and aromatic personalities, but without sacrificing the intrinsic richness and intensity from low yields. This wine boasts fabulous briery, blackberry, and cherry fruit, a crushed rock note, and a long, heady finish. This is super Zinfandel that should last 7-8 years."
