CELEBRATING THIRTY ONE YEARS
 REN & RANDALL'S SEVENTH YEAR
Saturday May 22, 2010 Tasting Wines

Our tasting this coming Saturday will feature the wines from Revelry Vintners.  This may be a new name for you, and it's not surprising since Washington State is host to an increasing number of outstanding producers, many of which do not distribute their wines in our region.  Revelry recently caught our eye, not only for its quality, but also for the reasonable level of its pricing.  It has not escaped west coast acclaim, however, winning numerous awards, such as Double Gold for Cabernet Sauvignon at the Wine Press's Northwest Platinum Tasting and its Merlot being included in the state's Top Ten Red Wines ranking by "Seattle" Magazine.  Come join us Saturday as we introduce you to another great wine from the Pacific Northwest.

2007 Revelry Vintners Chardonnay (Columbia Valley, $16.99).  Fragrant hints of soft citrus and pear with a light oak treatment.

2007 Revelry Vintners Merlot (Columbia Valley, $16.99).  Fresh and juicy blueberry and currant fruit with a touch of mocha.

2007 Revelry Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley, $16.99).  With a dollop of Cabernet Franc, this wine offers vibrant red fruits with nuances of French oak and vanilla.

2007 Revelry Vintners "The Reveler" (Columbia Valley, $19.99).  This wine is blended with Cabernet Franc (55%), Merlot (40%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) and aged in oak for 18 months before bottling, evoking a fine "right bank" Bordeaux of lush fruit and silky tannins.

" Discovering the New American Cheese"

Erick's Cheese and Wine invites you to come and meet author Peg Hall on Memorial Day Monday, May 31. Peg and her husband have just published "The Summer of a Thousand Cheeses."It is the story of their adventures discovering the world of the American artisanal cheese.

Peg will do a short presentation in the store at 2:30 and will be available until 5:00 for informal discussion.  Their book will be available for purchase in the store.

You will learn:
That American cheese is more than you ever imagined
Who makes the new American cheese and why
How there can be so many cheese varieties
How various types of cheese get to be so different from each other
What it is like to visit cheese festivals with a thousand varieties of cheese
How making cheese at home can involve shortening cans, tuna fish, and bricks
Where cheese was hiding in the '70s and '80s when attitudes and interests shifted from processed foods to vegetable gardening and food co-op shopping.

If you have wondered how the cheddars and yellow cheeses of our childhoods blossomed into the abundance of today's cheese choices, or if you have wondered about writing and publishing a book just for the fun of it, come and enjoy the Peg's presentation, the afternoon's conversation, and our fine cheeses.

INTRODUCING ERICK'S TASTING ROOM / WINE BAR

The space next door is vacant again.  This provides us an opportunity to enhance the Erick's experience by offering wine by the glass, exciting educational programs, a greater range of beers, accessories and gourmet food products.

We'll have some seating on the front patio, and more inside, to provide a more leisurely and comprehensive wine tasting experience.  Not only will you now be able to sit and relax and enjoy a full glass of some of our best wines but flights of small pours to compare and contrast.   For example, we'll pour syrahs and sauvignon blancs from three different regions to showcase their unique expressions. Tasting notes will be provided on all wines poured.  We will change the wines on a frequent basis...so keep coming back to try new wines. We'll also offer selections from our world-famous cheese display cases so you can see what wines and cheeses pair best.
