ROBERT FOLEY, VINTAGE 2007
No one is making better wines in Napa than Robert Foley. Period. As one might expect from Robert Foley, these are all massive wines, opaque purple in color, and filled with personality and concentration.
2007 Robert Foley Vineyards Merlot ($89.99). Robert Parker
95 points: "It is hard to find much better Merlot than Foley's 2007 Merlot. This is a blockbuster wine as well. Opulent, exuberant, with that certain "wow" factor from layers of melted fudge, espresso roast, plum, fig, and black cherry and currants, there is an impression of sweetness because of the high levels of alcohol/glycerin. This is a whopper to drink over the next 14+ years."
2007 Robert Foley Vineyards Petite Sirah ($72.99). Robert Parker
95+ points: "The black/purple 2007 Petite Sirah may well be around in 50-60 years, when most of us will be pushing up daisies. In fact, it probably needs to be forgotten for 8-10 years. A massive, pedal-to-the-metal Petite Sirah that looks like pen ink, the wine displays notes of creosote, pepper, spice box, blackberry, and blueberry, with hints of incense and floral undertones. It is dense and almost looks like syrup being poured into a glass. It is obviously not for everybody, as it is certainly a controversial New World wine, but these wines will become more and more civilized as they age, and I wouldn't be surprised if this one is spoken of with reverence 40-50 years from now."
2007 Robert Foley Vineyards Claret ($154.99). Robert Parker
98 points: "The extraordinary 2007 Claret, which is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine, displays inky notes of lead pencil shavings, pen ink, creme de cassis, blackberry, incense, and licorice. The wine is super-pure and super-rich, an extraordinarily full-bodied powerhouse of a Cabernet Sauvignon that should evolve for 15 or more years. Its sweetness of tannin and headiness already make it accessible"
