CELEBRATING THIRTY YEARS
COME IN AND TASTE THESE WINES ON SATURDAY, NOV 28, 1-5 PM

Complimentary

As you know quite well by now, Erick's is quite the community-minded organization, and by this we refer to our larger world community.  Not only does every dollar you spend keep Randall and me off the streets, but we support a large number of charitable endeavors each year.  What better time than Thanksgiving to introduce you to another of our beneficiaries - Wine To Water.

Over 1 billion people in the world today lack access to adequate water and sanitation.  Wine To Water is a 501(c)(3) non-profit aid organization, based in Boone, N.C., devoted to fighting this tragedy by providing clean water to needy people around the world.  Wine symbolizes fortune in our society.  Wine To Water's  goal is to give the fortunate population an opportunity to fight for those who can't fight for themselves.

Wine To Water has a line of private label wines, the sales proceeds of which support their endeavors.  This Saturday after Thanksgiving is a great time to raise awareness of this cause and invite you to taste their wines and buy generously - a real win/win!

2008 Wine To Water Chardonnay (California, $11.99). Blended from Collegeville grapes and barrel-fermented fruit, this wine is well balanced with forward green apple and lemon notes, leading to a crisp, clean and refreshing finish.

2006 Wine To Water Old Vine Zinfandel (Lodi, $14.99).  Sourced from vineyards which average 90 years of age, this Zinfandel delivers a great nose, wonderful mouth-feel, good legs and a silky-smooth finish. Charred nuts, cedar and blackberry aromas follow through on a soft entry to a fruity medium body with a crisp apple, berry and a caramelized nut fade. A nice fruity, easy going zin to pair with grilled pork and burgers.  And turkey left-overs.

Rounding out our tasting bar this Saturday are the following wines:

2008 Washington Hills Riesling (Walla Walla, Washington, $13.99, or 2 for $20.00).  Fragrant peaches, apricots and floral notes on the nose and flavors of mangos and peaches on the palate.  The bright acidity leads to a crisp finish with lingering fruit. Not a sweet wine.

2006 Razor's Edge Shiraz/Grenache (McLaren Vale, Australia, $15.99).  Here's another great value proposition from Australia, rated 91 points by Wine Spectator:  "Polished, round and expressive. A gorgeous mouthful of ripe blackberry, plum, cherry and exotic spices, with hints of leather and brown sugar nibbling at the edge. The finish rolls on and on against superfine tannins. Drink now through 2016

Today for our paid tasting ($5 tasting fee today to benefit Wine To Water), we offer the following fabulous wine:

2003 d'Arenberg Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon (McLaren Vale, Australia, $72.99).  From Robert Parker:  "The spicy 2003 The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon (aged in equal parts new French and new American oak) reveals copious quantities of black currants, cedar, vanilla, and white chocolate aromas, followed by spicy, tannic, full-bodied, powerful, dense, well-structured flavors. It should drink well for 10-15+ years."

SPECIAL WINE OF THE WEEK

What happens when distributors wind up with an over-supply of very good wines in a down economy?  They have "sales" and cut prices!  Here's one of the wines "on sale" which caught our eye - a pretty white wine from northwestern Spain from the native Godello grape, one of our favorite Spanish varieties.

2007 Pazo Arribi Godello (Bierzo, Spain, $13.99).  From Steve Tanzer (87 points, priced at $18):   "Pale peach-skin color. Intriguingly floral scents of fresh pit fruit, melon, jasmine and yellow rose. Gentle peach and apple flavors are a touch loose-knit but provide easy fruity appeal and good palate coverage. Finishes with lingering peach and melon flavors."   Good wine, good deal.  Let us know if you'd like us to order some of this wine for you.  Pre order only
