CELEBRATING THIRTY YEARS
COME IN AND TASTE THESE WINES ON SATURDAY, Sept 26, 1-5 PM

Complimentary

2007 Argiolas "Costamolino"  (Sardinia, $18.99).  Argiolas is one of Sardinia's largest and most modern wineries, making a wide range of outstanding, highly-rated wines from indigenous grape varieties.  The patriarch, Antonio Argiolas, 102 years-young, still visits the winery daily.   (88 points):  "The 2007 Costamolino is primarily Vermentino with a small addition of other local varieties. This is a gorgeous white with layers of perfume-laced fruit that flow from the glass. Made in a linear, minerally style, the wine possesses excellent length, balance and class. In short, it is a terrific entry-level bottling."

2006 Red Rock Winery Reserve Merlot (California, $11.99).  Want something simple, inexpensive, yet full-bodied and packed with oomph, for an early-Fall barbeque - here's just the ticket.  From the Wine Spectator (83 points):  "A juicy fruit bomb, with easygoing cherry cola and spice flavors."

2006 Maison Badet Clment Chateau Lamy Corbires (France, $11.99).  Who says French wines have to be expensive?  Here's a great value from the appellation of Corbires in Languedoc-Rousillon, the vast region in southwest France known for churning out an ocean of cheap wine.  However, in this corner of the region, the vignerons have been ratcheting up the quality of the wines, mostly red, and have now achieved their own appellation and no longer have to market their wine as vin du pays.  From Wine Spectator (86 points):  "Ripe and spicy, oozing with plum and dried berry flavors. Shows notes of iron and cocoa on the soft finish."

2005 Rosenblum Cellars "North Coast Zinfandel"  (California, $20.99).  As long as we're talking about a barbeque, we need to throw in a Zin.  From the Wine Spectator (84 points):  "Ripe and jammy, with blackberry and blueberry aromas and potent licorice, dried cherry and cracked pepper flavors."

With a $5.00 donation to the Avery County Humane Society, you can also taste: The 2003 K Vintners "El Jefe En Chamberlin"  (Walla Walla Valley, Washington, $59.99). "K Vintners is where the larger-than-life Charles Smith presides. He is an innovator, marketing genius, outspoken, you name it - but above all the man is a brilliant winemaker who knows where all the great fruit is hidden. In a region where blending is the rule of thumb, he is the ultimate terroirist. Each wine reflects the vineyard from which it was produced but there is also a house style which lets you know immediately who made the wine. While it's way too soon to put K Vintners on the same level as a Domaine Leroy or Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, the experience you get tasting in the cellar is much the same as in those legendary wineries, brilliantly made wines reflecting the terroir but also a winemaking signature that makes it totally clear which winery made the wine." Jay Miller, for The Wine Advocate

NEW ARRIVALS

Come check out our new wines from Robert Foley, including the 2007 Merlot, (Napa, $64.99).  From Wine Spectator (91 points): "A distinctive style, loaded with high-toned, toasty oak, but there's more than enough depth and richness to carry this. Aromas of currant and espresso lead to supple, structured plum, roasted anise and spice flavors. Tannins tighten the finish. Needs time. Best from 2011 through 2014."

We also have his 2007 "The Griffin" ($39.99), the 2007 Petite Sirah ($64.99) and the 2008 Charbono ($34.99) in stock.

Mary and Randall were privileged to have lunch a few weeks back with Robert Foley.  He is one of the great California winemakers.  All these wines are exceptional, our favorite was the Merlot.

We have a few bottles of the 2007 Charbono ($34.99 ) left.  A mini vertical.
