2007 Melissa Kelly Chardonnay (California$39.99)  An Erick's staff pick!  We liked it a lot.

2004 Yangarra Estate Shiraz (McLaren Vale, Australia, $29.99).  Wine Spectator 88 points:  "Not an over-the-top Shiraz, but one that finds a balance between its ripe blackberry and smoke flavors, fitting them into a modest structure that lets the finish sail on nicely"

2008 R Wines Cabernet Sauvignon, "Darby & Joan"(South Australia, $11.99).  Wine Spectator 88 points:  "Smooth and round, playing its very ripe cherry and currant fruit against smoky, tarry, vegetal flavors that mingle on the polished finish."

2007 Simonassi 1922 Malbec  (Argentina, $20.99).   Lovers of Argentinian Malbec, this wine is for you.  This terror-driven limited edition wine is dense and full of ultra-ripe dark berry fruit from vines planted in 1922.

With a $5.00 donation to the Avery County Humane Society, you can also taste: "The Fury" Cabernet Franc,  The Revolver Wine Company, (Brian Page), Napa Valley, $54.99.  The best Cabernet Franc I ever have tasted (Randall Ray).

MAGNIFICENT MATETIC

HALF PRICE SALE

Matetic is one of Chile's most magnificent, and special, wine estates. It's a huge, hilly 6,500-acre property planted to eucalyptus and pine forests and vineyards.  The Matetic family came to Pategonia from Croatia 100 years ago and bought their current estate in the San Antonio Valley 20 years ago and began making wine in 1999.  The family has subscribed to the biodynamic processes, one of the few Chilean producers to have made such a commitment.  Our experience is that biodynamic producers that go beyond organic production bring a passion and fastidious attention to detail that produces wines that are at the head of the class in terms not only with respect to health but of wine quality as well.
Matetic is in San Antonio, the cool part of Casablanca, and just 20 km from the sea, so it benefits from the cooling sea breezes in the afternoon and evening. The hot daytime temperatures are ideal for ripening the grapes, and the cool evenings lock in freshness and acidity, ideal for the grapes.  Soils are poor and well drained, and the roots of the vines descend up to 12 feet looking for nutrients, ensuring that the vines produce grapes with minerality and complex attributes.  We were thrilled to locate this wine and are excited to be able to offer it to you.

2006 Matetic Vineyards Syrah EQ (San Antonio Valley, Chile, $17.99 Half price sale).   Steve Tanzer 90 points:  "Inky ruby. Smoky black fruits, minerals and tobacco on the nose. Sweet blackcurrant, cherry and blueberry flavors are firmed by zesty minerals and dusted with fine-grained tannins. Gains energy with air, picking up a lively red berry character and finishing with impressive clarity and mineral snap. No fat on this one."  Also Wine Spectator 90 points:  "Dark and well-structured, with a core of purple and blue fruits held together by dark graphite, licorice and sweet spice notes. Dark, but racy on the finish."

The original retail price was $36.99.  We were able to buy the distributor's final inventory of this vintage at a great price, and are delighted to be able to pass along the savings to you. Limited amount available.  No further discounts.
