Greetings!
One of our favorite modules the past couple of years has been Personal Narrative Writing. In that module we discuss, at length, the importance of reading lots of engaging personal narratives to your students before they begin writing their own. We are frequently asked for a list of personal narrative books that work well with students. This month we are sharing a list of some of our favorite picture books; what are some of yours?
What personal narratives have you used in your classroom that your students have enjoyed, and that have worked well for you? Please take a moment and send us a list of your favorite titles and authors. Anything you've used that's worked well will be helpful: additional picture books, personal narratives from short-story collections, magazines, etc. We welcome ideas for all ages of students! Remember these important characteristics of a personal narrative:
-written in first person -about a specific incident that really happened -contains a reflection -appeals to senses (shows more than tells) -shows emotions/feelings -contains some dialogue -provides logical sequence with beginning, middle, and end.
We will collect the suggestions, and send out a supplementary list of all the new great ideas. Every person who participates by sending us suggestions will have their name entered into a drawing. The winner will receive a FREE set of The Write Tools posters (your choice of either our Grades 3-12 set or K-2 set). So, please, help us improve our list of great Personal Narratives!
The contest will end on March 31, 2009. The winner, and our new list of personal narratives will be announced in our April e-mail blast.
E-mail your suggestions to training@thewritetools.net with the subject line of "Personal Narrative Contest."
