Now is the time to stock up on essential school supplies for your writing classroom.  Add these to student school supply lists, or visit the Back-To-School sales at local office supply/department stores.  Purchase enough now while prices are low so you can provide for new students that enroll later in the year.
Supply List

Each student should have these three essential supplies in their writing classroom:

 
1.  A pocket folder with prongs OR a 1" 3-ring binder

  • Students can keep all notes and handouts pertaining to writing.
  • It's available as a reference whenever students are writing.

2. Composition Book

 
Composition Book
  • Use for planning, drafting, revising, and editing. Students should date pages as a record of their daily writing activity.
  • Never tear out/remove pages.
  • Maintains in the back of the book, a permanent record of notes from teacher feedback conferences.
  • Provides ongoing evidence of student growth.

3. Writing Portfolio (file folder)

File Folder
  • Stores all final pieces of writing, complete with scoring rubrics, peer conference notes, and other evidence of the writing process.
  • Along with composition book, the portfolio provides ongoing evidence of student growth.
  • Useful for parent conferences.
  • Can be given to student at end of year.
