From Our Kitchen
 Whether you just love to cook or want to spoil you baby with special treats, making home-made dog treats is for you. Each newsletter will have one or two recipes for you to try. I hope you enjoy these.
Bone Appetite
Serves/Makes: 10
Ready In : 30-60 minutes Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup white flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
Directions:
Preheat oven to 300. In a medium bowl, combine flours, cornmeal, dry milk and garlic powder. Add oil and broth; stir until well blended.
On a lightly floured surface, use a floured rolling pin to roll out dough to 1/2" thickness. Use a 5" long bone shaped cookie cutter to cut out treats.
Transfer to a greased baking sheet. Bake 25-27 minutes or until firm and bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer treats to a wire rack to cool.
Store in an airtight container in a cool place. Makes large dog treats.

Veggie Puppy Treats
Makes about 1 lb (500 g) of treats - Preheat oven to 350 F
- Nonstick baking sheets - Food processor
- Rolling pin - Pizza cutter
Ingredients
4 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp each dried basil, cilantro and oregano leaves
3/4 cup water
2/3 cup chopped carrot
1/4 cup cut (1/2 inch/1 cm) green beans,thawed if frozen
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp canola oil
1 clove garlic
Directions: 1. In a large bowl, combine flour, basil, cilantro and oregano. In a food processor, combine water, carrot, green beans, tomato paste, oil and garlic. Puree until smooth. Pour over dry ingredients and mix well.
2. In the bowl and using hands, knead until dough holds together. Transfer to lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll out dough to about 1/8-inch thickness.
3. With a fork, poke holes all over the surface of the dough. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut dough into 1/2-inch squares. Place about 1/2 inch apart on baking sheets.
4. Bake in preheated oven, in batches if necessary, for 20 minutes or until firm. Place pans on racks and let cool completely. Reduce oven temperature to 300 F. Bake for 25 minutes longer or until hard. Transfer cookies to a rack and let cool completely.
Store in a tightly sealed container for up to 30 days. | |
