"I want to go home."
I heard Kenny sigh next to me.
"I thought you loved an amusement park."
I looked at Kenny.
"Yeah, I do. But not every weekend."
Kenny pouted.
Sunday afternoon we were in Disney Land standing in a long line for Splash Mountain and licking the ice creams Don had just bought us. Don was in one of the gift shops standing in a line for the cash register with two Mickey Mouse hats in his hands.
"Are we going to wear that Mickey hat?" Looking at Don among the crowds, Kenny asked.
"I guess so."
Then I heard Kenny sigh again.
It has been a month since Lisa moved out. Now she lives with Mr.Malchovich. It was heartbreaking to see Mrs. Malchovich trying hard to pull herself together, but she was doing her best to hold up, staying cheerful and energetic in front of us.
Every day Joe the lawyer came home with our favorite cinnamon rolls from Everybody's coffee for Kenny and me.
"Mrs.Malchovich said the sweets would make us hyper and we were not supposed to eat every day."
But Joe the lawyer brushed off what I said and smiled.
"Don't worry. I got her permission. We want you guys to feel free to be hyper."
Then now we had Don, who was suddenly taking Kenny and me to the amusement parks every weekend. On the first Sunday after Lisa's gone, we went to Disney Land, and then the following week we were in Universal studio. Last weekend was Magic mountain day and this week we were back to Disney Land again. It was fun to try all the rides, but Kenny and I knew that all these sudden generosity toward us had got to do with the absence of Lisa and most of all this amusement park tour guided by Don made us more worried that Lisa might not come back so soon.
"Every week we were at the amusement parks, having fun as much as we can and eating sweets as many as we want. They didn't let us do that before."
Kenny shook his head in disapproval.
"That's true." I said.
"My mom set up her computer in my bedroom so that I can use anytime I want to."
"Good for you."
"Yeah. But before I wasn't even allowed to touch it. The adults always change the rules however they like it and whenever they like it."
"They are trying to cheer you up. They don't want you to feel lonely without Lisa."
"If they can change the rules, that means they can change their minds anytime they want to and all of sudden there will be the day I 'm not allowed to eat sweets, use my computer and have fun anymore."
"That's true."
"Lisa never did. Lisa never changed the rule."
"Yeah, your sister was a strict one."
We looked at each other, nodded and agreed.
