Missing Lisa

Greetings!

missing lisa 1"I want to go home."
I heard Kenny sigh next to me.
"I thought you loved an amusement park."
I looked at Kenny.
"Yeah, I do. But not every weekend."
Kenny pouted.

Sunday afternoon we were in Disney Land standing in a long line for Splash Mountain and licking the ice creams Don had just bought us.  Don was in one of the gift shops standing in a line for the cash register with two Mickey Mouse hats in his hands.
"Are we going to wear that Mickey hat?"  Looking at Don among the crowds, Kenny asked.
"I guess so."
Then I heard Kenny sigh again.

It has been a month since Lisa moved out. Now she lives with Mr.Malchovich.  It was heartbreaking to see Mrs. Malchovich trying hard to pull herself together, but she was doing her best to hold up, staying cheerful and energetic in front of us.

Every day Joe the lawyer came home with our favorite cinnamon rolls from Everybody's coffee for Kenny and me.
"Mrs.Malchovich said the sweets would make us hyper and we were not supposed to eat every day."
But Joe the lawyer brushed off what I said and smiled.
"Don't worry. I got her permission. We want you guys to feel free to be hyper."

Then now we had Don, who was suddenly taking Kenny and me to the amusement parks every weekend. On the first Sunday after Lisa's gone, we went to Disney Land, and then the following week we were in Universal studio.  Last weekend was Magic mountain day and this week we were back to Disney Land again.  It was fun to try all the rides, but Kenny and I knew that all these sudden generosity toward us had got to do with the absence of Lisa and most of all this amusement park tour guided by Don made us more worried that Lisa might not come back so soon.

"Every week we were at the amusement parks, having fun as much as we can and eating sweets as many as we want. They didn't let us do that before."
Kenny shook his head in disapproval.
"That's true." I said.
"My mom set up her computer in my bedroom so that I can use anytime I want to."
"Good for you."
"Yeah. But before I wasn't even allowed to touch it. The adults always change the rules however they like it and whenever they like it."
"They are trying to cheer you up. They don't want you to feel lonely without Lisa."
"If they can change the rules, that means they can change their minds anytime they want to and all of sudden there will be the day I 'm not allowed to eat sweets, use my computer and have fun anymore."                        missing lisa 2
"That's true."
"Lisa never did. Lisa never changed the rule."
"Yeah, your sister was a strict one."

We looked at each other, nodded and agreed.

"Are you guys having fun?"

Back from the gift shop, Don cheerfully put Mickey hats on our heads and smiled satisfyingly. If Lisa had been here and things had been as usual, maybe we could have jumped up and down with Mickey caps on. But both Kenny and I were not in the mood for turning ourselves into Mickey.

Kenny slowly took off his Mickey cap and said,"Can we go home after this ride?"
Don was surprised to find that Kenny wanted to leave.
"What's wrong? We just got here."
missing lisa 3Don looked at me as if he asked for an explanation from me. But instead I looked at my ice cream to avoid eye contact with Don.
"I want to go home."
Kenny pushed his Mickey hat to Don's chest.
"Why?"
Taking it from Kenny's hand, Don stared at Kenny.
"I want to relax at home." said Kenny in a low voice.
"Don't sound like an old man. All The kids should be excited to be in Disney Land. I am trying to get you fun." said Don, trying to sound cheerful.
But Kenny, who was staring at the ground, finally looked at Don and said, "I am not used to the amusement parks."
"Well, so I am trying to get you used to it."
"But why so suddenly?"
Kenny pushed his ice cream to Don and walked away from the line. Not being able to understand, Don turned to me with a Mickey hat and the ice cream in his hand.
"I know you are trying to cheer him up, but I think we should just do what we usually do every weekend."
That was all I could say to Don.
"Which is?" Don asked.
"Staying home." I said.

Don and I followed after Kenny to the parking lot. On the way back to the apartment, we were quiet. None of us talked about Lisa and none of us cried over it, but we all miss not having Lisa with us.

That night Kenny knocked at the door in my room and told me he had something to show me. In Kenny's bedroom, I saw a desk top computer nicely set up in his desk. Kenny sat on the chair, quickly typed up something on the keyboard and clicked with the mouse. I was impressed to see how quickly Kenny could type and move the carousel.

missing lisa 4"Where did you learn the computer? "
"I taught myself. It's easy. "said Kenny casually.
But that was not an only surprise I got. In a moment later what popped up on the screen was another big surprise. It was a photo of the familiar face, smiling.

"Lisa!"

" I tweet Lisa every day. I can find everything she does. Looks like she just came back from Sizzler. She also has Facebook account."

Kenny showed me another photo of her smiling on Facebook.  Then in a second later suddenly the words popped up on the screen. It said "Hi, Kenny. Go to YouTube and Check out my channel.  I uploaded my new video."

"What's going on?"
I had no idea what was happening, but without answering my question, Kenny kept typing and gave several clicks with the mouse. Next thing I saw was Lisa on the full screen mode singing "We are the world."

I was excited.
I was jumping up and down.

After we watched her sing, Kenny taught me how to type. Slowly I punched "I miss you, Lisa." and pressed Enter.  Soon the reply from Lisa came back on the screen and said, "I miss you guys, too."

missing lisa 7In Kenny's bedroom we spent at least another hour chatting with Lisa. This made us lot happier than the amusement parks with all the sweets we could eat. Lisa, Comeback soon.
