June 30th Weather: Nice
When I was watching the sunset by the window pane, Don called me out from the above, his room on the second floor. "Hey. Come over. I have a vet prescribed canned cat food here."
When he said that, I already knew it was not about cat food but about his 500 page script.
Munching Chicken flavored canned food Don served on the plates nicely, we listened to Don reading his script. Don was in a good mood. The way he read made us feel as if we were watching an adventurous movie in the theater.
As the story went, I realized a couple of characters he had in his script before were gone.
"Where did SamuraiNinjya go?" I asked "Oh, I deleted him. SamuraiNinjya? There is no such a thing.I don't know why I created him anyway."
Don proudly smiled. "What happened to Headless Turtle?" "That's gone, too.Headless Turtle? What kind of person creates such a spooky creature? Probably I was in the dark side of my life."
Don laughed at himself and patted my head.
"And no more Mar, Jupiter and all the other planets?"
"Nope.I focus only on the earth. One thing at a time. But those could be possibilities for serials."
Don tickled me and winked at me.
As he read more, I realized one new character he didn't have in his script before. "Who is this Princess SunShine?" I asked. "Oh, I added her. " said Don casually. Then he tried to proceed, but I stopped him.
"I am getting confused. The killer "Global warming" is destroying the earth. The world is heading toward the end. Then this guy, Robert, is going to save the earth because the Princess Sun Shine is on the earth?" I asked.
"No, the Princesses Sun Shine is not a whole reason for him to save the earth. He loves the earth. He loves people on the earth. Plus He lives on the earth, too. Where else does he live if the earth is destroyed? Every movie has a Hero.Robert is a Hero saving the earth. Having a charming Hero in the script is very important. A Hero captures the audience. Have you seen Armageddon?"
Don tried to move on to the next scene , but stopped and said to me, "Robert doesn't die in the end by the way."
Then he continued reading, but now I stopped him. "It doesn't sound right. When the building collapsed, all the people were under the debris crying for help. But Robert saved only the Princess SunShine. He doesn't seem to care there are lots of other people living on the earth."
I didn't like the idea the leading character saved only the Princess SunShine from the explosion and ran off with her leaving all the others behind.
"Because the Princess SunShine is his Love! She is his Life!
Of course Robert cares about other people on the earth, but he has to prioritize his Love when he needs to. Love can be cruel sometimes. The audience understands it." said Don, sounded frustrated with my stopping his flow.
"But Robert doesn't act like a Hero."
I still didn't agree with Don.
"Listen. Maybe you are not so familiar with Hollywood.
If you don't include Romance in the move, people get bored and walk away. Romance captures the audience. Hero, Romance, and Death with Explosions are major three elements in Hollywood. All the three elements are coming together into this scene. This is a climax scene showing passions between Robert and the Princess Sylvia under the explosions. I'm sorry I have no choice."
"I heard you just said the Princess Sylvia........" I said. "......No.........I didn't." Don denied.

It was already past midnight. Don's script was shortened from 500 pages to 300 pages, but still too long for me to stay focused without getting distracted.
"I am still in the middle of the creative process, but I feel I am getting there.I just need to focus on where each line leads to."
Don closed his computer and stretched his back. "So how is Robert going to save the earth from the destruction?"
I wanted to know the ending. "That's a good question. In fact I was going to just let it destroy, but now, I really feel like I need to save the earth."
Don looked far away and slowly closed his eyes with a gentle smile on his face.
I think Don is in love.
