A Subprime Loan for a
Peddle Pusher

Masood Sattari, an Afghan engineer living in the Bay afront of bike shoprea, worked in Kabul this summer. While there he wrote to me about Moshtaq Ahmad, brforeowner of a bicycle shop in Kabul that had hardly any inventory. Masood prepared a spread sheet of parts that listed the cost and profit of each part.  With an $800 budget, Moshtaq chose theloan parts he wanted. Moshtaq concluded that he could repay the loan at $100 per month, provided no payments would be required during four winter months.
      Three days a
suppliesgo, I learned that Moshtaq  made his first $100 payment. Moshtaq should be able to repay the loan as promised, and at least double his income from less than $300 to over $600 a year.  If he pays as promised we will  look at his credit needs next summer and provide him with his first lesson in leveraged buyouts.  fullMoshtaq is well on his way to becoming "credit worthy".
