This Issue: 2011 CARIBOU – WEEK 3
Abnormally warm weather with highs in the mid 70s hit Northern Manitoba and Nunavut as we moved into our second week of caribou. The first few days were slow as the migration stalled. One camp experienced slower hunting, with the animals slowly feeding through the area. Our other camp was slow the beginning of the week but on day three the animals came down by the thousands. We enjoyed exceptional hunting during that time with this chunk of the migration petering out towards the end of the week. The final results for both camps were excellent, with several nice bulls taken at both. We did end up flying six hunters from our western camp over to our eastern camp. High winds were also an issue on several days of the second hunt. Our guides worked hard to ensure guests opportunity at quality animals, with guides moving boats over land into other lakes so we could portage there and access other areas where big bulls had been spotted . Those efforts produced several nice bulls.
The week three tally was 100% opportunity on both caribou, 100% kill on the first caribou, 94% kill on the second. Several huge animals were taken including several around 360 B&C and at least three scoring in the 380s mark. Note the pics taken of week 3 caribou on our airstrip. Pretty darn impressive.
Overall results were Week 1, 100% opportunity and success; Week 2, 100% opportunity and success; and Week 3, 100% opportunity, 97% success.
The amazing thing about the 2011 caribou hunt was the main chunk of the migration never hit us, staying 60 miles north of us in Nunavut because of the high temps. Traditionally they are already moved into Manitoba by this time.
At times the hunt was ridiculously easy, at times tough, but the results were excellent, a tribute to our hard-working crew of hunters, guides, and staff.

MANITOBA’S TOP CARIBOU OUTFITTER
When choosing a caribou hunt in Manitoba, you should know WHY Ganglers CSAH is considered Manitoba’s top outfitter for Central Barrenground caribou-
1. TWO camps strategically located along the Manitoba/Nunavut border, in the middle of two major migration routes.
2. Top notch guides- experienced and knowledgeable. Many experienced guests say they are the best they have ever hunted with.
3. Comfortable and convenient air travel. We use Calm Air’s ATR 42, lots of room for luggage, meat, and racks with no need for splitting racks.
4. We will move you. We have two floatplanes based on-site and will relocate hunters within reason. We say we will and we do ! The two biggest lies at the sportshows are,” The check is in the mail,” and ‘ We will move you to where the caribou are !’ We are the only Manitoba outfitter who will move their guests at no extra charge.
5. Top-notch camps and food.
6. We offer a 7 day hunt. This gives hunters enough time to hunt over the spread of the migration (which ebbs and flows) plus time for us to reposition hunters if needed. We are the only Manitoba outfitter who offered a 7 day caribou hunt in 2011. We do what is best for our hunters, not what’s best for us !
