This Issue: Black Bear - Primitive Style

"CSAH repeat guest Kim Engelbert is a die-hard bow hunter. In his three bear trips with us, he has gone from the conventional bow to the most primitive weapon we have ever seen.  The weapon is quite beautiful and a testament to the hunting acumen of hunters from long ago. When he first showed it to us, we didn’t know what to think but knowing Kim’s excellent hunting ability, we looked forward to the result. Kim then took ANOTHER trophy bear this year which would have been exciting no matter what his choice of weapon! We asked him to share with you his story of the bow and how he took his bear."

Ken,

My bow is made from osage-orange wood with sinew backing.  My arrows were bamboo shafts with flint arrowheads.  We had tied a bear quarter to the bait and this bear had decided to defend it from any intruders.  We checked the bait in the middle of the day while we were fishing, and he was there and not showing any intention of leaving.  We returned to camp to get my bow and when we got back he was standing on the bait.  Even though it was only a 17 yard shot I had no shot angle.  Over the next 15 minutes the bear slowly advanced toward us, moving a body length at a time and then staring at us.  Finally at a distance of seven yards, he turned and I was able to get an arrow through a small hole in the spruce trees. His skull was 19 1/16".

Thanks for another great hunt,
Kim

(Kim took this beautiful trophy in 2010 and has also taken a 6’ black and a beautiful blond bear that went 6’8” and scored 18 9/16”, all with CSAH.)

2011 – Less Hunters, More Options

You read that right ! In 2011, we will be taking less hunters while baiting more areas and further limiting hunting pressure on our areas. Only 20 bear hunters will be lucky enough to hunt our pristine 5,000,000 acres of virgin territory. Most camps will only be hunted one week and limited to 2-3 hunters for the entire season. Looking for a monster bear, or even a monster colored bear, we are the place.  No other trophy black bear hunt offers so much in such an exclusive setting.
Call now, space is getting very limited for 2011 !
