Best Day of Fishing in My Life!

I just wanted to say thanks again for another great trip!  I think this year could go down as one of our best ever! We enjoyed four days of the most perfect weather, great camaraderie, first-class accommodations and hospitality at Gangler’s Lodge, and THE BEST FISHING OF MY LIFE!
 
After two days of catching a ton of walleyes (20”-25”) and northern pike , my trip culminated with one of the most incredible days of fishing with Ken Williams ! Ironically, the day did not start out so well, as we noticed that we accidently forgot my tackle box and our shore lunch in the pontoon of the Beaver, just as it lifted off the water and headed back to the lodge. Fortunately, I had my rods and borrowed three lures (a Johnson’s Silver Minnow, a gold Mepps Syclops, and a yellow-skirted Mepps Musky Killer) from Ken before experiencing one of the single best days of pike fishing of our lives!
 
The weather conditions were ideal with a little light rain in the morning, partly cloudy, temperatures in the mid 70’s, relatively no wind, and crystal clear calm waters.  When the sun broke through it was perfect for sight fishing. We saw massive pike everywhere; in the shallow weed beds, or sunny themselves on sandy flats, and cruising right around our boat. Our guide, Bernard, skillfully maneuvered the boat keeping us on the fish all day long.
 
Altogether we caught seven 40” or better fish!  We caught three trophies; Ken caught two (41” and 42”) and I caught one (41”). We also each caught two 40” pike and countless more good-sized, quality fish in the mid to upper 30” range, including several on our fly rods – what a thrill!!!  The fishing was so good we didn’t mind going without our shore lunch, only breaking from the action for some beef jerky and pepperoni sticks, a cold Labatt Blue, and a cigar! Truly an unforgettable day!
