Opera at the Acorn presents Rigoletto
August 20, 2011 8:00 pm EST $25 The Acorn Theater, 107 Generations Dr., Three Oaks, MI TICKETS Here or 269-756-3879 Opera at the Acorn's August 20th presentation promises to be the signature event of the Summer. This is a chance to see Verdi's Rigoletto up close and personal, Opera at the Acorn style will be performed for the first time in O.A's history with symphony orchestra. Rigoletto has an astonishing number of the greatest arias ever written for opera. It features the lilting, heartbreaking Caro Nomé, the mischievous La Donna e Mobilé, and the gut-wrenching Cortigianni, accompanied by members of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Philip Bauman. The stellar cast includes mezzo-soprano Isola Jones in her signature role of Maddalena, a role she made her own at the Metropolitan Opera with the likes of Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. In the title role, making his O.A. Debut, is baritone John Payonk, a singer who defines the role. The role of the lacivious duke will be portrayed by tenor Isaac Hurtado, also making his O.A. debut-- a role that was made for this handsome gentleman. Soprano Sarah Hibbard will sing the role of Gilda, Rigoletto's love-struck daughter. This is also Sarah's first visit to the Acorn-no question audiences will be hoping it's not her last. The role of the assassin Sparafucile will be performed by O.A. founder Robert Swan. "To be perfectly honest, I wanted to do Rigoletto so I could perform this great villain again, and to do it in this great compnay will be an honor. The climactic final scene is without a doubt one of the most beautifully realised, dramatic scenes ever written." Rigoletto will be performed in the original Italian-but don't worry, you won't miss a word with the translation carried above in "supertitles." Opera at the Acorn is proud to be joined by Maestro Bauman and an ensemble of LCSO musicians. We hope that this is just the beginning of our collaboration, and if this effort strikes a chord in the audience, to be able to offer more than one performance of these major works. |
