An Evening of Dance and Adventure

La Porte County Symphony Orchestra

Phil Bauman, Music Director/Conductor

Phil Bauman, music director/conductor

The perfect way to spend a Sunday evening is at an outdoor concert featuring the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra directed by Phil Bauman.  On Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in Michigan City Washington Park's Guy F. Foreman Amphitheatre is a program titled "An Evening of Dance and Adventure."  The Michigan City Music Festival and Mayor Chuck Oberlie sponsor this event.  To commemorate his years of service to the community and his support of culture in the community, the LPSO has invited Mayor Chuck Oberlie to conduct the symphony in a rousing rendition of Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever."

Whether it is patriotic tunes, classical fun or jazz favorites, people will want to dance to Saint-Saens' classic "Danse Bacchanale," "Jump Swing Fever," "Patriotic Melodies That Stirred a Nation" or "The Story of Mumble Happy Feet."  Two talented and diverse soloists will be featured, and they are ready to entertain.  The music will heat up with nightclub swing vocalist, Rick Barnes singing Mancini's, "It Had Better Be Tonight."  For the classical aficionado, concertmaster Jonathan Johnson will perform Mendelssohn's "Violin Concerto"

Maestro Bauman's program would not be complete without a few adventure-filled fantasies.  To round out the event, contemporary movie music includes:  "Great Escape March" by Bernstein and "Pirates of the Caribbean:  At World's End" by ZImmer.

Bring a chair or a blanket and come to relax and enjoy this free concert.  Parking fees for Washington Park will apply.
