Plan for an afternoon with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra as they demonstrate a span of Romantic themes that will feed your imagination with movie images, adventure, heroes and love. Joining the symphony's stage is the talented guest pianist Thomas Pandolfi at the Elston Performing Arts Center in Michigan City on Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. As a mixture of musical themes unfolds, this Classic Concert will begin with the romance of French composer Camille Saint-Seans' "Phaeton", the story of a greek hero. Then Mr. Pandolfi will emerge to thrill the patrons with a "new" classic. The just-released James Bond Concerto has familiar strains that will conjure images of the well known spy sensation. The themes you will hear include: For Your Eyes Only, Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, You Only Live Twice, Octopussy, Casino Royale and others.
The second half of the concert will be comprised of two contemporary pieces. British composer, Richard Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto is a pianist's fantasy. It was originally written for a 1941 film about a World War II love story named "Dangerous Moonlight". The piano passages interpreted by Mr. Pandolfi will demonstrate the passionate artistry for which he is well known.
The concert will conclude with a symphonic piece that will further explore romance. It is by American Composer Howard Hanson - his Symphony No 2, "Romantic". The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra will demonstrate that a Classic Concert of contemporary classics will give the audience a hint of romance, adventure and escape to the world of music.
