VOLUNTEERS
On the second Wednesday of October for over 22, years Michael Drayton has been organizing all of the details involved in filling the La Porte Civic Auditorium to capacity to treat thousands of school children to one of three performances of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra.  Mr. Drayton is assisted by Pam Bush, Friends of the Symphony, La Porte Service League, Kesling Middle School Student Council and the staff from the La Porte Civic Auditorium.  This task force cares deeply about giving children the opportunity to see and hear a live performance of a full symphony orchestra.

James Stephenson, Composer

MUSICIANS

The musicians of the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra enjoy the energetic enthusiasm from the young concertgoers each year at this event.  The sound of thousands of elementary students' laughter or singing is indescribable.  Joining the musicians on stage this year is composer James M. Stephenson, III.  The entire presentation is based upon a children's program that Mr. Stephenson wrote called "Compose Yourself."  There will be a section where the musicians play three melodies and the audience chooses their favorite by applause.  Then they pick a harmony style and later a specific rhythm is chosen.  The musicians will be ready to play whatever the unique combination may be from the children's choices.  This new composition will be premeired on the spot by the talented musicians.

SPONSORS
For the second year in a row Shirley Lubeznik has led her family in sponsoring the Children's Concert.  This family is deeply involved in making sure that all of the children in the area have the opportunity to be enriched with cultural opportunities such as this one.  Through their support the 65 musicians that make up the LCSO are paid for their rehearsal preparation and performances.  The Lubeznik family will also provide a special guest appearance of Ronald McDonald.  Ronald is a friend of the symphony and has performed with the orchestra many times in the past years.  He, along with the children has an enthusiasm for learning more about the music of the orchestra.  Ronald will lead the sing-along which is an arrangement of patriotic tunes by James Stephenson to conclude the concert.
